We definitely saw it in theaters. My mom took us to see a movie every Saturday morning and some weekends had better options than others. This probably seemed like a no-brainer (writer of Braveheart + star of Titanic + famous historical characters = 1 billion dollars).
Man in the Iron Mask definitely exists so this discussion probably should be in the general chat thread, but it made me google and wiki...apparently it was the #2 movie its opening weekend, to...Titanic.
I'm pretty sure we saw Titanic in theaters a third time about a year after it released. It's hard to imagine a movie ever having that staying power again.
I had a childish grudge against Titanic for decades because I remember it beat Star Wars at the box office and young Star Wars obsessed me was not having it fast forward like 20 years and it's one of my wife's favorite movies. I actually didn't even watch it until like 2020 lol
All the boys reflexively hated DiCaprio because of how much the girls loved him. Even to this day I use it as a reference because it is the thing the most people have seen.
Yeah I definitely remember rolling my eyes/making sarcastic comments to girls in my grade who were fawning over Leo at the time lol
i didn't actually see Titanic until they rereleased it a couple years ago for an anniversary. it's incredible
The knocks on Titanic are almost identical to the knocks on Avatar, namely that it is a simple story underneath the effects. Of course, that's the point, which is why an 8 year or old or 80 year old can follow them.
My family was Titanic obsessed. I think we saw it 4 or 5 times in the theater. The last time I saw it just for the Godzilla teaser. The ‘90s were a different time. And guys hated Leo, but like, it’s understandable why he was so big. He was legendarily handsome and has/had a ton of charisma.
Honestly, it ain't good but it's got some great lines I still quote. But it's rough. Handle your shit, Fabious, please.
Taken out of context considering the surrounding discussion, this seems like it's about Titanic and now I'm just envisioning Kate Winslet saying to Billy Zane "Handle your shit, Fabious, please."
I saw this in theatres stoned out of my mind with my friends in 2008, laughed my ass off of how dumb it was, and didn't think about it again for over 15 years.
I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a cult classic but I see memes from it all the time and people still seem to like it and talk about it
