This came up on HBO holiday movies section. A Thanksgiving movie staring Katie Holmes, Oliver Pratt, Patricia Clarkson, Alison Pill. 2003. It looks like it was shot on a handheld digital camera and made by a kid in college (directed by the guy who wrote Eating Gilbert Grape). WHAT IS THIS!!!!!??
I remember seeing that cover at Blockbuster and Family Video back in the day and always wanting to watch it since I was a big Dawson’s Creek fan but never did and have never seen it anywhere (streaming service, random tv channel, etc.) and thought it was like a knockoff SLC Punk or something based on the cover, but it’s a holiday movie???
id also like to toss in that "oscar nom" doesnt automatically mean it exists. I mean, it came out in 2003. I was in full fledged "knows about movies" mode. Blockbuster, deep cuts, indie flicks, oscar movies. They were all in my scope. Never have i seen that poster. And i definitely didnt know the movie looked like it had the budget of $20
I remember that movie because the trailers were in every drama around that years' award season. The film went nowhere, though.
There is a lot to complain about in the modern landscape but we should be grateful they stopped making these.
I checked! Filmed post-Captain.. fucking wild. 14% RT score, but we all knew that by the poster, didn’t we?
Far-fetched thought but I wonder if it was one those things where he was signed on to do a certain number of films for that company so he was legally bound to it? I think that was the case with Channing Tatum and doing the two G.I. Joe movies - although usually actors get contracts for specific franchises but just a company itself (l assume) so maybe that was the case and Evans wanted to be done with it, said he was gonna do whatever was next on the docket to get made, and that was it lol
