Goldmember sucks, but Spy was pretty good. Ghostbusters 2 is fantastic and anyone who hates on it can suck it. Scary Movie 2 and 3 are both pretty funny lol I don't think I ever saw hot shots 2. I may be alone in this but I find The Hangover Part 2 to be okay. Like it's not nearly as good as the original but I don't find it horribly unfunny either. 22 Jump Street and Neighbors 2 are both hilarious. There's so many good moments in each movie to quote them all, but goddamn.....Something about Channing Tatum asking if they have Cate Blanchette with the budget cracks me up every time. And in Neighbors, the immediate look of horror on Seth Rogan's face after me mentions the "bun" in the oven...immediately laughing every time.
Oh, Borat 2 was decent too. As was Addams Family Values. I also enjoy Rush Hour 2 and probably like some of the Beverly Hills Cop sequels, but haven't seen them in a while. I don't know if those count as "comedies" as much as what we're talking about though.
American Pie 2 is also pretty good (relatively speaking here lol). If Father of the Bride Part 2 counts even though it's more romantic comedy/family type, I'd say that one is good too.
Addams Family Values is a prime example of a comedy being a huge improvement over the original. The “Bill and Ted” sequels were also good.
Oh yeah, I mentioned Bogus Journey but I loved Face the Music, too. Maybe I'll rewatch that this weekend
I think the rule of thumb should be you have to make a comedy sequel within five years of the previous one or there’s no point.
I don’t know why I wasn’t thinking of Addams as a comedy, but Values is the Citizen Kane of comedy sequels then
Until now I’d happily forgotten this movie exists and now I am anxious remembering how god awful it was.
Yeah, and I think that’s why I tend to group those films mentioned last night/today because they’re “legacy sequels” that should’ve let well enough alone. Sort of view Arrested Development that way (though there are a lot of arguments about season four, I know) I guess. Really great thing, years pass, fans clamor for more, they give us more, and then we all avert our eyes upward as if there were something interesting to look at up there like “oh…never mind.”
