You’d have to “Clockwork Orange” me to watch that.

had king richard won best picture, joe bell would've been reinaldo marcus green's the cobbler

Wahlberg got a sniff Oscar gold with “The Fighter” and now he can’t quit chasing the dragon.

The Cobbler is truly one of the most loathsome piece of shit movies I’ve seen in a bit

referring to how spotlight won best picture despite director tom mccarthy having released the cobbler earlier that year. had king richard won BP it’d be a parallel of sorts since he also put out joe bell in 2021

Reminds me of How Do You Know, which I suppose also belongs in this thread. Budget was $120 million, almost half of it the salaries of five people

Both of those are pleasantly watchable. Rumor Has It was too complicated and misbegotten to really work, but How Do You Know had promise if James L Brooks had still been in his prime.

Am I misremembering things or was March of the Penguins a huge reference point for just about all comedians in the mid-00s. Like I have the distinct memory of being confused why everyone seemed to care about this specific penguin documentary so much

yeah it was for some reason lol. that, happy feet, the penguins from madagascar and surfs up all came out around the same time. penguins were hot in the mid-00s

Morgan Freeman talking about penguins is pretty remarkable, Super Size Me and Michael Moore also made surprisingly high cultural impacts

  18. Happy Feet was a big source of parody for sure

“March of the Penguins” was a weirdly hot commodity as a documentary. It made $127 million - basically unheard of for a doc. I remember going to see it with my mom and us both falling asleep.

Apparently a March of the Penguins 2 was released 5yrs ago, which is funny enough, but also lol at this line from the wiki: "The sequel did fairly well, scoring 100% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 5 reviews"

Just remembered this movie because it was brought up on an episode of Podcast: The Ride from 2017. I don't know a single person who saw this movie.

I really enjoyed this movie actually. Probably would still like it, but it's definitely faded from my memory.
