if you are on the monthly plan, you should only be charged the monthly fee every month when it auto renews. The $115 is for new customers pre-paying for an entire year. It gives you (a slight) discount and "guarantees" that the price won't go up for a year.

Using MP is a nightmare today. I bet the traffic on the app is trough the roof. Saving my receipt!

They posted on Twitter that the app is overloaded. They say to pay out of pocket, save the receipt and they'll reimburse you.

My local indie theater just started denying Moviepass, their website has a big disclaimer on top. I don't get how it hurts theaters. Anyone?

They're worried when Moviepass gets big enough and all their customers have bought into it Moviepass will threaten to remove the theater from their service unless the theater issues a discount on admission to Moviepass. Unfortunately it's kinda a lose/lose situation for smaller theaters so this is probably the smartest way to minimize that damage.

or take the new surplus of more frequent movies goers and enjoy it while it lasts. I feel like movie nerds make up a large portion of the moviepass populate and that local indie movies that feature "good movies" would see a bigger flow of people

Yeah, the indie theater here seemed to love it for that exact reason... Maybe they're doing it so they have a little more bargaining power when they eventually have to break and start allowing it again? Their website also says they're doing it to eliminate the angry customers blaming the theater for Moviepass technical difficulties which, judging by posts I've seen on the Moviepass reddit, is totally understandable.

I feel like MoviePass is just severely misunderstood by most movie theater employees and MP customers alike. If MP did a better job of outlining how to use the service properly, and had a better working app, better customer service, etc. there would be less problems.

As far as theaters saying they are not accepting MP... If the MP app is showing the theater, and you can check in, you can still use your MP at the theater. Just go to a kiosk or something. It should be treated the same as paying with any other Mastercard.

The reddit page is the best resource for all things MP considering that MP doesn't have their own shit together enough. If you ever have questions, I highly suggest checking the sub. If you're new to MP, read the FAQ... it will save you.

Went to see Three Billboards on Sunday, there was a massive power outage in the area so the movie cut out with like 30 minutes left. They were giving out passes, so I took one. Used it to buy an advanced pass to Black Panther, and then went the next day to finish Three Billboards. Worked out quite nice.

That sucks. I haven't had a chance to make it out to the one theater showing the shorts near me, so I haven't even checked to see if MP would cover it or not, but if not, I'd probably just buy tickets for another movie with MP and just walk into the screen playing the shorts. Shhh, don't tell MP though.

The theater showing it here is way too small to sneak into the wrong movie unfortunately. It’s either a tiny room with less than 16 seats or a huge concert venue with over 600 permanent seats so one way or another they’ll realize something is off haha

Bummer. My theater is a 30 screen multiplex. It has reserved seats, but unless you're trying to go into Black Panther or something, it's never a problem. The theater is always so crowded and the staff is all teenagers, so 90% of the time you can just walk right in without even getting a ticket. They have a Coca-Cola freestyle machine so I just bring my same cup back 3 or 4 times (until the bottom gives out and I have to buy a new one) - It's a free for all at my crazy ass theater.
