Thread for discussion of movie scores because their rad. A handful of popular composers: John Williams Hans Zimmer Danny Elfman Clint Mansell Michael Giacchino Phillip Glass Brian Tyler
Here are some favorite pieces of mine: Dustin O'Halloran - We Move Lightly - Like Crazy Danny Elfman - Sandra's Theme - Big Fish Tom Tykwer, Johnny Klimek, and Reinhold Heil - Cloud Atlas Finale - Cloud Atlas Hans Zimmer - We Built Our Own World - Inception Also, have to mention that I fucking love the score from Birdman
Old Souls is a personal favorite of mine from Inception (which also happens to be one of my favorite movies)
@Timmiluvs It was really hard to pick one from a lot of these. The Cloud Atlas score is probably my favorite so narrowing it down was tough
Oh shit. Okay so it's based off a book. The movie has Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Hugh Grant, Susan Sarandon, Ben Whishaw, James D'Arcy, and more. It's all about the idea that what you do in one life effects you in the next. So everyone plays six characters. And the music is amazing because it's actually fairly central in two of the timelines. It's an incredible score.
It's long and it definitely takes some brain power. If the first time you watch it is confusing, give it a second try.
Pretty much any soundtrack from a Studio Ghibli movie is golden One Summers Day - Spirited Away やさしさに包まれたら - 魔女の宅急便 - Kiki's Delivery Service Merry Go Round of Life - Howl's Moving Castle Just for a few favorites.
I love the Ex Machina score. It fits the movie so well and just adds to the unease you feel as the movie goes along.
@cshadows2887 I know you enjoyed it. The visuals really were fucking stunning though. All the shots on the winter planet were beautiful.
Other scores I adore: - A.R. Rhaman's for Slumdog Millionaire - John Williams for Jaws, Munich, Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Lincoln, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Saving Private Ryan, The Empire Strikes Back, The Force Awakens and Catch Me If You Can - Thomas Newman for The Shawshank Redemption, Bridge of Spies, Finding Nemo and Little Women - Ennio Morricone for The Good The Bad and The Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West - Elmer Bernstein for Sweet Smell of Success, The Magnificent Seven and The Great Escape - Aaron Copland for Of Mice and Men Not even going to start with musicals
Newman is a god. His score for the pilot for The Newsroom is easily my favorite music for a TV show this side of "The Gift" by Christophe Beck for the S5 Buffy finale
