Can’t say I really like any of the liveries revealed so far. I absolutely hate the black on the McLaren.
I'm finding it a bit of a bugbear with a lot of the cars at the moment. They spoil otherwise nice looking liveries with big sections of black on them. Mclaren and Alfa are the main culprits so far this year for it. Black F1cars almost always look shit on track.
I like black f1 cars, but it needs to be all black. Like the black Mercedes. The Alfa car looks absolutely terrible with the black. Every car so far is really really dark. McLaren is basically the same livery that they ended last year with and it’s so disjointed and terrible with the amount of black in it. I get that they’re doing it for some weight saving but it just looks awful. I miss their liveries from a few years ago that were completely papaya.
Black arrows are back. that’s the kind of black livery I like. Just a shame literally every team will blend into one another on track.
Merc have stuck with the 0 sidepod design then. That's bold of them, particularly when everyone else (aside of Ferrari) seem to have merged towards the RB design. If it doesn't work out, there's going to be fireworks.
I know there’s not really any NASCAR fans here, but I’m going to the Daytona 500 this weekend and I’m so excited for it.
Yeah I don't care much for NASCAR, but I think it would still be pretty fun to check out an event like the Daytona 500
So I decided to watch the last half hour or so of the race today. I was super fascinated with everything as i've never really given a race on TV a chance. Question though, how common are all the collisions during the last few laps? It obviously fucked up the end of the race and I was pretty lost in what was going on but how often do races end like that?
on the super speedways like Daytona they’ve become quite common, feels almost expected, thanks to the way the cars pack together tightly. They’re obviously entertaining but the regularity with which they happen these days diminishes the results for me. Lots of random winners in the recent history of the 500. Much less common on the other tracks.
Restrictor plate racing is trash, haha. Richard Petty also came out recently saying the cars need more HP as well
I strongly disagree with the superspeedways being trash and a crap shoot. The same drivers are consistently up there each race. Yes, some make boneheaded decisions that end up wrecking a lot of cars, but if you look at the end of almost every one, you’ll see the same guys. Stenhouse is on an underfunded team, and learned to make the right moves finally after a lot of years of wrecking the field. Cindric has been quietly consistent on plate tracks. McDowell is almost always there at the end and it finally paid off two years ago. I can understand not liking them, but it takes a different skill set.
You’ll see it more at Daytona and Talladega. The way the track is, the cars stay bunched up more and rely heavily on drafting, which means any sort of mistake compounds extremely quickly. Next week at auto club would be a good one to watch a more traditional race on an oval.
My rant/dislike is more a long-standing one against big pack racing, where in order to make progress towards the front, you have to rely on the aero of others
Obviously I don’t work there anymore, but according to someone I asked who does, Stroll is not making the first GP.
I'd wonder if he makes either of the first two. Rumour is that he's broken his wrist (saw some suggestion it was both), but even with just one broken, I would have thought the loss of training time and healing from surgery might well keep him out in Australia too. Breaking a wrist and then driving an F1 car at full tilt, within a 6 weeks, seems a big ask. It's strange how secretive they've been about the whole thing.
