I think there's a good chance Uralkali/Mazespin is out of the team before the season even begins. Russian sponsorship of anyting is about to get VERY toxic, and so I doubt an American team, out of all the team, would want to be branding a Russian sponsor from here on out
It'll be interesting to see, because without that idk how long Haas is going to last, that's their main source of income now
F1 tends to be a dirty place, so I wouldn't be shocked if Haas carry on as usual. The Russians involved will just point to Saudi Arabia and Yemen and ask what exactly is different. They have a race and aren't Aramco more involved with the sport this year?
Honestly might be the move at this point. Haas is going to have no funding with this problem is, Herta probably won’t have his super license and I’m sure his indycar agreements are locked in for this season. If anything, I see it being Andretti takes over next year, they roll with some fill ins for Mazepin until then, and sell after this season
i almost feel bad for Haas given all the sponsor problems they’ve had for a years now. They finally got a “stable” sponsor, give up two years to develop a car with the new req’s and this happens during testing.
I feel bad, but at the same time they knew who they’re dealing with. I hate it for Mick and the workers of the team so much. I hope they can get through this okay.
Imagine getting your dream job, only for your dad’s lunatic mate to get you fired lol. Steiner basically hinted that Mazepin will be fired and Uralkali ditched.
Interesting rumour today. Under the cost cap, Ferrari can afford to buy Haas, rebrand them as Maserati/Fiat, and install Gio as driver, and still spend less than they spent last year.
It sounds like Haas has a potential sponsor lined up and won’t be in danger of shutting down if/when they drop Uralkali/Mazepin. Hope it’s true.
Chances of Andretti linking up with Haas very strong, since chances of Andretti getting an extra slot on the grid is pretty low
F1 wants 12 teams i believe. It’s why you are seeing rumours of Andretti, VW/Porsche, the asian based Renault customer. I suspect these slots are being actively shopped about and part of that will be the reduced/binned entry fee that comes into affect soon. Crucially, i hope they get stable teams, unlike when we had HRT, Marussia, etc
The cost cap will go a long way to bringing in new teams. The previous teams you mentioned were promised that then it got scraped as they joined, so they never stood a chance. I'm hoping for a bigger grid eventually.
Not sure I agree with this sort of thing. How big a step is that from banning any Russian members of teams from doing their jobs too? I know there's a weird thing in motorsport that you're representing your country (even though you're probably signed for a team from another country, operating under some branding from a sponsor), but that seems questionable to me.
