Best season opener since 2002. Drama all the way down the grid. Red Bull chucked away the win really with their strategy and they need to stop doing that, happens far too frequently. Gasly had an awful race but the upper midfield battle for third in the constructors between McLaren, Ferrari and Alpha Tauri looks tasty.
Amazing end to the race. I thought Lewis was stuffed with Max bearing down on him. No idea how he held him off. Vettel is looking like a great signing. Picked up five penalty points in one race. That shunt with Ocon and his excuse for it were both ridiculous. Surprised Gasly made up so little ground. Did he get more damage than just the broken front wing? Impressed by Perez. If Red Bull remember to give him a working car, I think he might give Mercedes and particularly Bottas a real headache.
Merc have made gains for sure, whilst Alpha Tauri look strong again around here. Ferrari also look strong, whilst Aston Martin and Alpine look slow. weirdly, Williams look decent and in particular Latifi looks on it so far.
Yuki crashed out in Q1. Rear of the car is destroyed. This track is taking no prisoners this weekend.
Jesus Mazepin half a second slower than Schumacher... Latifi out qualifies Russell in Q1 and both Williams in Q2! Mazepin overtakes Gio on the outlap and seems to have ruined Gio’s lap. Jesus Christ.
and Russell out qualifies Latifi. It was nice while it lasted Sainz is out in 11th. That’s a bit of a shock.
Red Bull with a 2 vs 1 against Lewis is gonna be really good tomorrow. Perez on the softs could jump Lewis at the start and then it could be really interesting.
Yeah, it was a strange choice but with how it played out it's probably not the worst idea. Split strategy vs Lewis, and considering they think it could be a slightly damp start, maybe it won't really matter.
I'll update that, apparently the first sector is wet and the last corners are dry. Rain doesn't look like it's staying though.
