I think it comes down to Justin's main complaint about the CD which was its lack of energy and production. He said it really dragged the songs down and ultimately didn't make them fun to play live as well. I find it funny because it has some really strong lyrical works. I find it amusing how much of a polar opposite Panic Stations was from Go. He clearly took that sentiment to heart. The lyrics aren't nearly as strong for the most part and most songs have a lack of identity. Although, Anything At All, I Can Feel You and Days Will Run Away are really solid. One of my favorite things from Panic Stations is how awkwardly slow TKO in general and especially for a single from them. I love how tons of people were commenting "adjust the speed to x1.25 to hear how it's supposed to really sound" and stuff like that haha.
Yeah I completely agree with that. If Go had more energy, it would feature much higher. It has some really cool lyrics on but it was all too slow and lethargic. Never really heard that about TKO but I'll give it a go just to see! I found the lyrics on PS to be the worst part.
Totally in agreement. I love the idea behind so many of the songs on Go, but the execution just wasn't right. The lyrics were so sloppy, but worse than that, they (for the most part) didn't have Justin's trademark quirkiness and it felt really generic to me. I would have loved some more out of left field references and such.
PS definitely doesnt have the heart their other albums do, for the most part, but Justin writes great hooks and I like the 90s rock vibe so it's a solid record.
I'd love them to one day do another record, in a few years when maybe they feel inspired again. But if they decide they aren't all on board, I think I could deal with this band being done, no matter how much I love them.
Go. Go has the great lyricism and some cool melodies, it just lacks energy in places. Panic Stations had energy but the rest felt phoned in, especially the lyrics on all by two days. Neither are world beaters or close to their best but they both have plus points.
I’d say Go overall is a better record. But Anything At All, I Can Feel You, and Days Will Run Away are three of their best songs ever (and I like those more than any song on Go) so that kinda makes up for the rest of PS.
Go's production is so cozy. It sounds like a blanket. I can see how people would not like it but I like that it's really friendly and approachable but in no way gripping
Also I believe Go would’ve definitely been better received if it had been released in fall or winter. Was not the MCS record I was expecting (nor necessarily wanted at the time) in June and as a follow up to MDL
