Ok I think it's Even If It Kills Me at 17 votes. Wow no love at all for It Had To Be You. I understand, and I agree, I'm just surprised that NO ONE picked It Had To Be You. Seems like there's always one. I personally picked Last Night when I did my own bracket, but I 100% understand and am on board with EIIKM. My 2nd favorite on the album easily. Also interesting: I included Point of Extinction in my top 4, beating out It Had To Be You in round 1 (lol) and Antonia in round 2. Underrated tune. My Dinosaur Life starting momentarily.
Alright everyone, it's time for one of the most important albums of my life & the first Motion City album that I ever was actively anticipating (as in, the first one that was released since I had become a fan somewhere along the way during the EIIKM album cycle), so it's a special one for me. Round 1 will be: The Weakends vs. A Lifeless Ordinary (Need A Little Help) Stand Too Close vs. Sunny Day Hysteria vs. Her Words Destroyed My Planet @!#?@! vs. So Long, Farewell Delirium vs. Skin and Bones Pulp Fiction vs. Worker Bee Round 2 will be: Winner of 1 vs. Disapper Winner of 2 vs. Winner of 3 Winner of 4 vs. History Lesson Winner of 5 vs. Winner of 6 Happy voting!
One day I will give them a proper listen... Woops, well the good news is there is plenty of time to vote in the MDL first round. & also your vote wouldn't have made a dent haha
A Lifeless Ordinary (Need A Little Help) Stand Too Close Her Words Destroyed My Planet @!#?@! Skin and Bones Pulp Fiction
The Weakends Stand Too Close Her Words Destroyed My Planet @!#?@! Skin and Bones Worker Bee This is my favorite MCS album, glad I'm coming in now!
A Lifeless Ordinary (Need A Little Help) Stand Too Close Her Words Destroyed My Planet @!#?@! Skin and Bones Pulp Fiction
The Weakends Sunny Day (neither exceptional, but i really don't like Stand Too Close) Her Words Destroyed My Planet @!#?@! Skin and Bones Pulp Fiction (tough!)
The Weakends, for my money one of their most under appreciated songs) Stand Too Close, this one is tough but the lyrics in this one really make it stand out ("I have apologized a billion times/When I've gone off the wall like Busta Rhymes/And pulled a stupid stunt that left you thinking/There was something wrong with me/You’ve thrown a few choice phrases at my way/And I’ve ignored them all as best I could/Except that tiny bit/How I just can’t commit/There is some truth in what you say"). Her Words Destroyed My Planet, because it's the song that REALLY made me fall in love with this band, after hearing one or two songs a few times before. @!#?@!, purely cause I find it a ton of fun. also how do you pronounce this song? Skin and Bones, mainly cause as an atheist I love the idea and lyrics to this song. Pulp Fiction, just because I really enjoy the melodies to this.
The Weakends - This was tough, I really like A Lifeless Ordinary but The Weakends is such a great closer for this album...I'm still not 100% this is the choice I would go with if I gave this more thought, but it's the one I'm going with on instinct. Stand Too Close Her Words Destroyed My Planet - I don't mind Hysteria at all, and really love the bridge on it. But not as much as pretty much all of HWDMP. Can't not give it up for a Veronica Mars reference. So Long, Farewell - I wouldn't replace @!#?@! with So Long, Farewell or anything, but I probably like it as a song more. Skin and Bones - I can't remember if it was an interview or BTS video or making-of type feature, but somewhere there exists a story about how after Justin recorded the vocals for Skin and Bones Mark Hoppus dryly said something like "you guys write really happy songs" and it made me laugh. Pulp Fiction - Worker Bee is a great opening track but I have tons of affection for Pulp Fiction - especially the alternate version, but the original is great too.
I know at the very least, the band says that that's what they call the song (or at least did during the recording of the album). I have no idea where I read/heard that, but I know I did somewhere.
