Did you have success getting into JEW on the latest go round? I thought so but couldn't remember for sure
oh wow fuck thats another one thats coming up on 10. yeah, that one deserves some love. YC on that album just decided to perfect everything theyd done before and it succeeds immaculately.
Yeah I like that band a lot now, especially CTL. I wouldn't say I love them as much as a lot of people on this site do but I absolutely see why they're so highly regarded.
Big Casino was actually the first Jimmy Eat World song I heard that wasn't The Middle. CTL/EIIKM were my introductions to JEW/MCS
I wish JEW would just play sets with five or six CTL songs. It's one of those records they usually only play two or three from, which is a bummer. Dang, I always forget that was 2007.
I'm with you, but I think on JEW's latest tour, the CTL songs they played (Big Casino & Always Be), lacked a certain oomph live compared to the other songs. Maybe they didn't have the setup to really make the songs pop.
yeah thats how some EIIKM songs come across live from videos ive seen. like they dont have the right amps to recreate those guitar tones and Jesse doesnt have his piano there and stuff.
Glad to hear it. On that note, I think IB may be my favorite JEW album at this point, or it's at least well on its way to earning that title. It's really just a perfect blend of everythijt they do best, and it doesn't hurt that it's only the second JEW album I heard as a pre-existing fan.
I thought "Big Casino" was a highlight, actually. "Always Be" didn't have quite the punch it does on record, but it was still good. Honestly, the song they play that I think doesn't work live is "23." I love the hell out of it, but it sounded so out of tune when I saw them live. They really lean on the Bleed songs live, which is fine, because those songs are so good live, but I'd like for them to branch out and dig a bit deeper into their catalog for their shows. That's a criticism I've had each time I've seen them. Nope. I've seen them play it once, I think, but it's not on their current setlist.
I've cooled a bit on Integrity Blues. It's still really good, but I don't think it's the second best record in their catalog anymore. Maybe third.
yep IB is about 3rd for me. Going through PS again and i still think its underrated as hell. I think Justins lyrics arent quiiiite as verbose and specific at points but for the most part he delivers in both songwriting and vocals. Claudio does fine on drums and everyone else is doing their thing and doing it well. I really like this overall theme of water and the ocean and this idea of being on the brink of disaster constantly. Feels really mature and well thought out. Also special shoutout to "Days Will Run Away" for being, as Craig put it, a great period to end the MCS sentence on. Its about equal with MDL for me. Theres not a song I dislike, theres some definite highlights, but I do prefer the other 4 records if I'm being brutally honest.
Futures and Chase This Light usually switch between first and second for me. Panic Stations grew on me but it's still dead last for me. But I really disliked it at first and now I like it a lot. "Days Will Run Away" is perfect. It's not their best song, but it's by far their best "work", if that makes any sense at all. Contextually, I don't think many bands have gone out better than that.
I wasn't a big fan of IB, it's between that and Invented for my least favourite of theirs. I still don't really like PS outside of like 3/4 great songs.
Now that I think about it, my JEW ranking is in inverse chronological order except with CTL and Invented switched
Panic Stations isn't quite up to their standards, but "I Can Feel You" and "Days Will Run Away" are still better songs than most bands ever write.
