The production on MDL is almost too clean. It has a very weird artificial sound on some songs. I don't know how to explain it. I love the album even so.
I see we're ranking things again. CTTM EIIKM MDL IATM Go PS MDL and IATM are pretty even for me, but I think their first four are as close to flawless and this genre gets. Fairly big drop off between 4 & 5, and 5 & 6 for me.
MDL was such a big album for me when it came out, partially because it was the first album that came out after I really got into them, so it's hard to separate that nostalgia of it all. I do think I reach for it a little less these days, but I still think it's great.
Gotta say I liked MDL alot more when it first came out. I never listen to it anymore outside of Stand Too Close and Her Words.
My Dinosaur Life was the album that got me into them so I'll always have a special place for it in my heart.
MDL is my favorite MCS record, but it also has one of my least favorite songs of all time “History Lesson”. Ole O.A.R. Sounding ass song.
I remember Alternative Press giving it a perfect score and comparing it to Pinkerton in their review and I think that probably overhyoed it quite a bit for me personally. I do not think those records could be much more different in songwriting or production lol
MDL is an all-timer for me, but also I was 13 when it dropped, so a bit of a different timeline for diving into the band. This thread also made me look for MDL on vinyl, and looks like it got repressed! Running out of shelf space, but going to jump on that to complete my MCS collection.
