MDL is very good, but it's always felt a little too pristine or polished for me. I appreciate the swing the took on Go more
Commit This to Memory >= Even If It Kills Me I Am the Movie >= My Dinosaur Life That's my solid top 4, but the 1 and 2 / 3 and 4 spots will swap depending on my mood and/or what I listened to most recently. Then I like Go overall much more than Panic Stations, BUT "I Can Feel You" as a song I like far better than any one song on Go.
First four just clearly feel like a band who is fully realized and are nailing it, the last two albums they lost their spark
They dropped a good amount of the synth-pop of their sound in favor of organic instrumentation and made a slower, indie-rock-style record. It definitely stands out as having an individual identity in their catalog imo
Making a record that doesn't sound like your other records and may challenge your current audience isn't a swing? Lol
I think a song or two on Go, like Everyone Will Die or Happy Anniversary are definitely swings. The rest, while I do like it, mostly feels like EEIKM b-sides. Boxelder notwithstanding.
Go is my go-to MCS album for fall/winter. I think they did a disservice to it releasing it in the warm months. To me, it hits much better in the cold ones.
i guess we're just going to disagree here haha. I don't think Go is THAT different from what they did before, it's just slightly slower and less catchy, definitely doesn't do anything I would consider "challenging" A swing to me is something that takes a big chance, Go is like... a bundt (I don't know sports, but this is what I am going with)
I mean I don't necessarily think MCS takes full swings with albums, but they do tend to do it with a song or two on each album at least after CTTM. EIIKM - The Conversation MDL - History Lesson Go - Son of a Gun, Everyone Must Die Panic Stations - Lose Control (at least in the verses) By far Go is their most different album
