I was confused by all the Bioshock references in the band/song name, art, lyrics, etc til I looked up who the other member of the band was.
Justin is on the latest episode of Lead Singer Syndrome for those interested. Lots of personal and MCS talk. Edit:
I'm on a kick right now so I guess I'll finally get around to their last two albums. I love CTTM & EIIKM, but MDL was a bit disappointing and I sort of stopped following after that
Go is amazing, i was watching life pass me by and it made me get up off my feet and do something about it. unfortunately i really didn't care for Panic Stations
Eh, never fully clicked for me. I liked it but none of the songs were as catchy or hard hitting as most of the songs on the previous two albums
Fully admit CTTM is their best record, but I am one of the few hipster fans that still really enjoys IATM. I got into the band right before Commit This came out and got to see them a few times when that was their only material. I just have an attachment to a lot of those songs.
I like them all a lot, Go and Panic Station are definitely their weakest in my opinion, but both have really great I teeter between IATM and CTTM being my favorite all the time. Getting to see them pay a lot of that material at their final show was such a treat.
The first four albums are definitely my favorites but there are still plenty of great songs to be found on Go and Panic Stations in my opinion.
I like most of the Go record, but that was also the most depressing time to watch the band for me, so I don't go back to it like I should. Watching them play a 400 cap club and not sell it out, given where they had been was pretty hard.
I love everything from I Am the Movie to My Dinosaur Life, though they all have different strengths as albums. Go I like a lot, and it has a lot of really good songs, but as an album I don't find it stacks up...for a band that usually has killer openers and closers, that record doesn't have a particularly strong start or finish. Panic Stations has two songs I think are really solid, and a lot of pretty middle-tier stuff. End of the day, I have a hard time pointing to much of any of their material as out and out "bad" though, so I'd say they've got a pretty strong catalog, overall.
Panic Stations is okay, but the production is terrible and the songwriting pales in comparison to every other record.
Every Motion City album is so special to me in its own way. They each create a specific mood/feeling when I listen to them, but never without sounding like the band that I loved. Go is probably the one I revisit the least often, and I still love that album. Panic Stations is an incredibly underrated album. I truly believe if they hadn't led with the 2 worst songs on the album, everyone would've been so much more receptive. I Can Feel You is a strong contender for my #1 favorite MCS song (and there's plenty of other jams as well).
