I want a new record bad. I was listening to Panic Stations and while I would definitely rank it on the lower end - it’s a lot better than I remember! Go is still their worst record though lol
I think Go suffered from being released in the summer when it's totally not a summer album. It's one of my go-to fall albums. I've always thought that if it were released in a different part of the year, it would have been more well received initially.
Idk, I liked Go as a summer album. I played the shit out of "Timelines" and "True Romance" and "Circuits & Wires" and "Coma Kid" and "Floating Down the River" that summer. (Also, wow, that album came out 10 years ago in June.)
Add Panic Stations to the list of albums released in the last couple of years from some of my favorite bands that I had no will to listen to after being let down by previous releases (blink-182 - nine). Maybe I'll also add that to finally giving a listen to this weekend. Just... fell off after MDL. I guess Muse and whatever they've released in the last 4-5 years also falls into this category for me.
I stand corrected! I like listening to it in the summer too, personally, haha. Summer nights, for sure. But fall time is great with Go. That's when it really clicked with me.
Go and Panic Stations didn't do much for me at all but I definitely think Panic Stations was the weaker of the two.
Go is really good. It's a mood record for sure, but I'm always glad I revisited it. Panic Stations is fine - the production is rough and some of it feels pretty by the numbers, which is pretty much the opposite of Go.
I think Go mostly suffers from the fact that a lot of their fan base abandoned this type of music for several years and the band was drained. I know the album can be separate from all of that. MCS popularity felt like an all time low during this cycle. They played a 400 cap venue that wasn’t sold out on that run for the date I attended. Didn’t surprise me when they did the CTTM tour after and then tried doing Panic Stations. Felt like Thursday was in this same boat around this time.
Go is definitely better because it doesn’t have anything as egregious as “Lose Control” or “Over It.”
