Maybe it’s because I’m super into Sincere Engineer, but Deanna’s vocals are pretty obvious on the bridge.
I am also team “the guest vocals are very easy to pick out,” although I can understand not picking up on Deanna, at least at first. I personally like how everyone’s incorporated - I find that guest spots can sometimes take me out of a song, so I’d rather it be more subtle or at least not front and center.
I saw some posts a while back mentioning that Tony's drumming is pretty meh here (you know who the fuck you are), I just want to push back against that and say I really love his drumming on this album. Especially in We Know Who the Fuck We Are, but he's great throughout.
I get the guest vocal complaint for Mat Kerekes. But I feel like Patrick has a pretty big part of Particle Physics, and Deanna is a huge part of what makes the bridge of Things Like This work so well.
Great talk with them. Patrick wrote the chorus of Particle which makes sense, he did a really great job of channeling Justin's early lyrical style.
I feel like Mat's part is there to elevate the chorus in general, until he let's out that belt towards the end. I've come to love that song/his contribution.
I can clearly hear all of the features I just expected them to take a full verse or something along those lines.
Hearing a live version of She Is Afraid is so cool because they transitioned it so well into Indoor Living which I would not have thought of
No difference really, just go with your preference. Thanks for listening at all, wherever you choose.
Great listen and wow they can talk! Finished it tonight. Now subscribed. I'll be waiting for the UK tour as don't think I'd get to Slam Dunk.
I keep coming back to put on Mi Corazon. I legit can’t stop playing this song. Quick bike ride home? Mi Corazon My exit is in 4 mins? Mi Corazon My remaining walk is a couple blocks? Mi Corazon Obsessed doesn’t begin to describe it. I even know it’s not the best song on here, but is the most sonically pleasing to me.
My daughter has been dancing all night to the A side of this album and reading the lyrics on the vinyl like it’s her new favorite novel. Never really had this kind of experience with a record before or songs that weren’t just streaming. Her mind was blown when she unfolded the gate herself and saw it all laid out. “You mean they just print the words for you?” Gang, my heart is so fucking full, I can’t even stand.
Which, funnily enough, was supposedly written by Patrick (if I got that right). This song is a win for sure
