I do wonder if Mcs is gonna get a few days into this tour ànd then collectively wonder what the hell they got themselves into
There's a couple of songs in here I don't vibe with like the opener and Mi Corazon, but it's a great album otherwise. I think it's a fantastic way for the band to come back but overall I don't think the flow is as good as how well something like EIIKM, CTTM or Go flowed together. I don't see myself listening to this all the way through as much as some of their other albums. Very intrigued to see what they'll cook up next time because they said they recorded three songs for Didi so they could choose which fit best. Did the other two end up on the album? Are they going to be B-sides? Three of TSOWWW songs were started during Panic Stations so there's definitely a bit of that vibe in here. I just think we're going to get some really cool and probably more experimental stuff from them again if this album was any indication.
Gonna be chatting with Justin and Joshua tomorrow for the podcast. If you have any questions you'd like to ask them about the album, let me know with either a quote reply or send me a private message. I can't promise I'll ask EVERYTHING sent my way, but will certainly ask what I can.
Just tell them thanks for such a great album especially with all the personal stuff they've had to go through for the past couple years. They've all had some really rough stuff happen. Enjoy talking with them!
I’d love to hear about what the above poster asked. If they recorded 3 songs for Didi, are the other two on the album? Are there any b-sides? Maybe this would be an awkward question to ask, ha, don’t want to seem greedy for more music after they just gave us such a great album.
pretty sweet that I ordered the Electric Fetus variant and they ended up signing copies and was lucky to get one!
This new MCS album reminds me a lot of Jimmy Eat World's Surviving. A long-lived and beloved band playing on their strenghts and making a short and sweet record that contains all the elements that made them recognizable while not being overtly nostalgic and pushing their sound forward. Easily my favorite since My Dinosaur Life.
Man particle physics is so good. So is this album. I had a lot of confidence they would make an album at least on par with go, but they have exceeded even that in my opinion
There are some killer songs on here and I really want to hear some of them live. I find myself returning to this more than I thought I would on initial listen. Some of the slower songs are a little clunky, but they truly have not lost any energy in their hiatus to create some of the more high tempo stuff I tend to gravitate towards.
I don’t feel particularly moved by much lyrically if I’m being super honest but the melodies and vocal performances are like all hitting great for me
Why don't you say what you're going through? What's inside of you? What you wanna do? Wedged in my head and I don't even care.
I was feeling that way for most of the album as well, definitely Justin's least adventurous journey lyrically for MCS on some songs but there's a couple great lines every now and then. Particle Physics is also just classic. But as far as being moved by lyrics I agree with the exceptions of: Melancholia: "No software update can change a man" "Why don't you say what you're going through? What's inside of you? What you wanna do? Why does it seem like you wanna hurt? So you make it worse? Till you have to burst? Why don't we speak anymore?" She is Afraid: "She gets enraged at the void I return to when destroyed" The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World: "It's the same old wasted wonderful world It's the same old wasted wonderful world We're dying We're still dying to know who we are" Things Like This: "Get yourself together, man You can't miss what you never had Things like this don't happen anymore Brace yourself against it all Look past what you can't recall Things like this don't happen anymore" "Feels like a catacomb of thoughts in my head Every list incomplete, every word left unsaid I keep crawling around in the dark of it all Is it too late to start again?" Your Days are Numbered: "Let's catch on fire, let's celebrate My pockets full of things that just get in the way"
The bridge on Downer is so great, I don't think we've talked about that part enough. Really great stuff. This is a pretty neat album!
Finally got around to this, I truly love huge chunks of this and am so happy to have them back, but it also has the most songs that I don't vibe with outside of the debut (which I've never really loved). Am I the only one who cannot get into "Particle Physics"? The chorus feels so clunky. Anyways, in positive thoughts, "You Know Who the Fuck We Are" and the album opener are already all-time MCS songs for me. A lot of the songs have killer bridges too. I'll echo the sentiment that I wish Tony flexed a bit more on here, as he is one of my favorite drummers. I do wish "Stop Talking" was on here, but I kinda see why it didn't make it, it feels different than the rest of the tracks.
I hope someone appreciates that I said that knowing full well that this album and Stop Talking are the only songs they've released in years.
Haven't heard any praise for Matt's bass which is sad because he gets some really great parts in some of the songs. Would love a bit more next time like we got on My Dinosaur Life.
