This is growing on me with every listen. So glad to have them back. I actually prefer the first half of this, I think it’s just outright catchier, but it’s cool to see them experimenting in the second half too.
I think this is my favorite front-to-back album from them since Even If It Kills Me, but if we're naming favorite post-prime MCS tracks, gimme "I Can Feel You" and "Days Will Run Away." Panic Stations is just "pretty good" overall, but those songs are killer.
Particle Physics may be one of the catchiest songs they've ever written. Album wise: Melancholia Things Like This Particle Physics Your Days Are Numbered Bloodline She Is Afraid The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World You Know Who The Fuck We Are Some Wear A Dark Heart Mi Corazon Downer The last three shuffle around a bit.
I work a weekend job delivering weekly premade meals to folks. They asked me to take a second shift yesterday, and for the full five hours, I just listened to this on repeat, completely unintentionally lol. Solid way to pass the time driving through the (miserable) streets of Boston trying to find parking, lol.
Things Like You being positioned at track 10 reminds me of Point Of Extinction's placement on EIIKM...how did a song this good end up buried here???
Counterpoint: putting a good song late in the album sequence is not "burying" it; it's caring about a full-album listening experience.
Me trying to explain to my bandmate that we don't have to frontload every album with "the best songs" so people keep listening
I think if there's a song on your album that you think is going to cause people to stop listening, you either 1) replace it with a better song, 2) embrace the fact that there is something about your album that might be challenging to some listeners, 3) be ok with losing out on the absolute lowest common denominator of low-attention-span dweebs.
Seemed like an odd choice to me Its not like it lines up better with the back or anything so just wondered if anything had been mentioned cause the hype sticker was placed how you'd expect it be if the art was displayed like it is online.
Yeah, I meant my comment positively...as in, "dang they placed an incredible song late in the sequence, listeners gotta dig for this one and it's awesome they have enough great songs they can do this."
It's funny, I feel like a lot of us learned so early on that whatever bands picked to be the closing track was one to watch for. But I also have always ascribed extra importance to whatever lands in the penultimate slot, probably more so than a track 2 or a track 3. Whereas, I think the typical thing is to expect the cream of the crop at the beginning of the album, especially among listeners raised on streaming.
I absolutely care what track number a song is if I'm listening all the way through. Sometimes bands just have absolutely no flow to their albums
