The record isn’t landing as well with me as I had hoped but I will say that the title track is great!
Avoided all singles since the first one- very glad I did. Vibing this one so far! Just said fuck it and ordered the vinyl too, whoops. haha
I am loving the album but also feel like a different track list order would have helped the flow of the album more. All the songs are great but to me You Know Who the Fuck We Are or the title track should have opened the record and Your Days Are Numbered could have closed it.
i think things like this sounds the most MCS since commit this to memory. almost sounds like it could have been on it. i like when they follow that formula.
I did think I may have accidentally put the album on shuffle when I started it this morning, but yeah, I like the opening and closing tracks as they are now.
It's a great feeling when a band from your teenage years comes back with new music that's actually good.
I want to love this, I think the flow is holding it back for me. The opener is way to mid tempo for my personal liking, but that's probably on me and my expectations given their history of amazingly upbeat catchy openers. I do enjoy a good amount of these songs after a few listens just sequencing is off for my personal tastes.
Update: I just did my first listen and good god this is fantastic I love it when a band is able to somehow sound like their old selves while also sounding super fresh and this album did that perfectly. Kinda reminds me of Problems by The Get Up Kids Can’t wait to give this a few more spins
I'm really enjoying this album overall, but my minor nitpick is that Tony Thaxton's drumming seems dialed back a bit on this album. There are a few songs where I was anticipating a breakdown in the bridge (like something we've heard in Time Turned Fragile) or even just a few interesting fills on mid-tempo tracks, but he mostly keeps things straightforward. There are moments like in You Know Who the Fuck We Are that I really enjoy though.
He's been working those muscles out with all his solo stuff and guest appearances. He's genuinely gotten so great at maintaining his voice.
It's very funny because I was just thinking that earlier. There are some really good parts with Tony but he does seem more reserved and letting other instruments shine or take the lead.
