I think I listened to each single exactly once to keep the whole album reasonably fresh, so I'm excited to hear it all together tomorrow. I stopped spinning the hell out of advance singles a long time ago and it's been a great change to the way I engage with an album
I compromised with myself and bought a CD, only to discover I don’t actually own a way to listen to a CD anymore. Guess I will be waiting until this evening. The show rocked though, it was so fun seeing them play new songs!
Subsequent listens are already even more positive. I didn’t think Melancholia was very good on my first listen and now I think I was being crazy. Mi Corazon is a cool track. Bloodline is pretty fun, too. Neither song sounds like your typical MCS song. Opener and closer are both great, as usual. We’re so psyched to put on the nostalgia crown. Particle Physics is another one that I like way more in context.
Welcome back, MCS! Their best album since My Dinosaur Life. What a great and satisfying first listen. Excellent songs, awesome production, no skips. My only critique is that Crooked Ways and Stop Talking aren’t on the release. LOL. I love those two songs.
Easily my favourite of theirs since My Dinosaur Life. And to provide an Australian millenial perspective MCS were much bigger than Say Anything here. They would tour on festival bills frequently, their videos were on TV a lot. My friends and I knew and liked MCS and had their CDs. Until I discovered AbsolutePunk I had never heard of Say Anything.
Album is really, really good. Almost tempted to call it backloaded, but that's probably because I listened to those first three singles so much. At the same time, "Downer" is like, classic MCS followed by two more highlights to try something almost completely new for them, which is seriously so rad. I'm glad they didn't just crank out something that sounded like CTTM 20 years later. (I even hear GO in the opener, which is super pleasantly surprising). Justin sounds great.
Not gonna say "my favorite since X" because it's been out for 9 hours and I think it does GO a major disservice, lol
Yeah, I’m not going to rank it yet either (other than to say it’s definitely better than Panic Stations); I’m just very happy to have a solid new album from them. I really liked GO when it came out but my impression of it has definitely waned over time, perhaps in part because of memories I have attached to it. It is an album that makes me sad but not really in that bittersweet nostalgic way.
Happy with this album. It’s a fun time and reminds me of all the reasons why this was one of my favorite bands a time ago.
Only listened to each of the singles once or twice, so this morning has really been a treat. What a time warp this album is.
