But I've read your posts and most of the time you don't seem to really like any of their old music either!
i like old MCS. commit this to memory is my favourite record from any band. i got lost at my dinosaur life though and like happy anniversary. maybe my brain doesn't produce dopamine and i just hate everything?
Love this. As I get older, I'm realizing how much fun it is to hear the bands from my youth keep putting out new music...it's taken me awhile to be comfortable with answering the question people ask me about "what new music are you listening to?" and saying "This old band you stopped listening to in high school but I never stopped listening to, is releasing INCREDIBLE new music and I'm here for it." I try to be open to newer bands but nothing is connecting with me more than new music from bands I grew up. Anyway, I'll stop now haha
i do feel this but i think it's a bit extreme to stop breathing over. i really don't mean to piss anyone off but it is interesting to have discussions about because the way i view art is insane and it's not fucking fun.
I feel like this is something @Craig Manning and I say on a regular basis. It's been a constant theme of both of our writing for like 5+ years now. The forgotten great late career album.
I agree 1000%. I just said that in response to their posts. Music still plays a huge role in my life. I'd argue that some songs released in the last 5 years have had a larger impact on me than songs released in 2005.
So many of my favourite bands/artists have either stopped making music altogether or just released way less over the last decade so any time one of them does make a new record like this, I'm going to be spending a lot of time with it.
Absolutely, it's a beautiful gift every time. Cannot wait for more of this MCS album (and hopefully more albums!)
One of my favorite things to do: when I have a friend over who I knew used to listen to a certain artist, I'll put on their newest album. It's such an interesting conversation starter, because it dredges up all these memories and all this past fondness that person had for the music, but they just, at some point, stopped following the new music. It's such a common thing with people once they hit, like 30. They just stop keeping up. But it's always fun to pull them back in.
no, music is not made the same / less creative than when i was a teenager. not really sure why you need to be a dick.
One of my favorite music memories was just after JEW released Surviving. I turned it on at work and a colleague was like, “I had no idea this band still made music,” and he was extremely into it.
My first favorite band has been making what I consider to be terrible records for 18 years, but I always listen to the new one in hopes of finding a few new tunes I can get down with. Asking someone to abandon their creativity (and job!) just because it's not what I'm vibing with is crazy.
no but then people shit on their stuff like its new again. you can't please everyone with your art, apparently i just had the guts to say what a lot of people think.
There are over 6K likes on this post: And it looks like 99% of it is extremely positive? Like, all of their posts are like this: EIIKY, MDL, and even Go have a whole lot of fans. The new album's really good. "Particle Physics" may be an all timer from them. "She is Afraid" has over 400k plays on Spotify and has been widely praised. What are we doing here? I feel like I'm being gaslit into a history of this band that is divorced from my lived experience having followed them from before they even had a record deal.
