I love the implication that Hunter Schaefer is constantly letting Sam have gay ass seances etc , that queen deserves a raise, and Fka Twigs was regularly getting possessed Also Mary only wearing extensions on stage was a great metaphor
I stumbled onto an awareness that there’s some “discourse” out there about how gay this is or isn’t. And, let me say, these bitches are in love.
Feel like this is coming and going without much fanfare, which is too bad. I’m still thinking about it a ton and listening to the songs from it. Would totally see it again, but that’d be tricky with my current schedule and where/when it’s playing, and TDWP2 is about to push it out of theaters. The stage-y scenes between the two leads were so engaging, and the more surreal sequences so beautiful. So much about the core conflict between the characters really speaks to me (from both ends of the dynamic). Love when a movie I was looking forward to this much lands this well; I’m sure it’ll be at minimum in my top few films of the year when all’s said and done.
This was ok. Good performances. Not sure I’ve ever seen someone have tears in their eyes for an entire film like Anne did here
You didn’t like the music in the context of the movie? Or just don’t like it in general. I’d disagree on both counts. But, I could maybe understand a little more as far as the concert scenes go? I loved them, but the songs themselves didn’t always punch as hard as I would’ve guessed. However, listening to the album after seeing the movie, a lot of those songs hit real good. They’ve got the whole religious-imagery-meets-sapphic-yearning thing down. Great moody pop songs (which is something I’m quite into.)
Music mends broken hearts. (I dunno if Josh will get that; isn’t he a poster who somehow wasn’t on AP.net?)
Like my thought was are these really low key to cover for Anne not being an actual singer Which is fair, but that’s what I was thinking
Actually I guess another thought is “these songs don’t seem good enough to convey how popular she allegedly is”
I don’t think Anne has trouble singing. I think they just leaned into more of, like, a Madonna-influenced art pop thing. I don’t listen to FKA Twigs nearly as much as I should, but I’ve heard enough to be able to say she surely was a big part of the equation. Which, makes her feel less like a Taylor Swift or Beyoncé type artist. But, the style fits the tone of the movie, which isn’t consistently concerned with the literal to begin with, so it works.
Josh: [opinion] me: [continuing conversation with counter-opinion] Josh: “Why am I being censored???”
I didn’t say that. I’m happy you enjoyed the movie. I enjoyed the movie. There are things I didn’t enjoy about the movie.
Grim has said to me like 7 times he doesn’t think he’ll like the movie and he’s in here being mean to me
