Like it’s a fun movie, that’s all it needed to be. Like it’s not going to be cinematic ambrosia for the intelligentsia, it’s a bunch of people pounding the shit out of each other.
Meh, more in terms of a super huge fan like @Anthony_Soprano coming away with a mild overall reaction had me less excited to watch than I was. Plus there's many more posts of lackluster reception throughout the thread since this came out But, I'm still psyched to check it out regardless
The Cole character is the biggest problem, but like others have said, the ceiling for a film like this is not too high.
No spine rip. No Shang Tsung morph. No Kano cannonball. No spike pit. Kung Lao was perfect and I wish he just fought everybody.
all I'm hearing from y'all are reasons that the next movie will be better, unless they really, really drop the ball
Just finished watching this and gotta say I might've overreacted earlier. Still a fun movie with solid enough character moments and some fight scenes that were more impressive than expected, though there's still plenty of room for improvement. Not bad for something that's intended as a prequel to the main event, so I have a good feeling now about the sequels.
As much as I was slightly underwhelmed with this one, I really, really, hope that it does well enough to warrant a sequel or two.
Do they take HBOMax views into account at all in that figure? I imagine a decent chunk of views came from there.
Doing my third watch (and probably last until/if we get a sequel) and the part where Liu Kang puts his hand on Kano’s shoulder and says “there’s much to learn” the “the fuck” Kano gives him is so god damn funny lmao
He was shockingly funny. I expected that to feel a little forced, but the guy nailed it. Crazy that the first actor who portrayed him essentially created what is now the signature Kano sound and look. Up until the first movie he had no charisma or interest as a character.
