Everything not Cole ruled, but because of Cole, I got to see Goro in a farmhouse setting. So...glass half full, there? Liu Kang and Kung Lao were dope, even if Lao went out like a punk, and the Sub-Zero/Scorpion battle was great. For "free", loved it.
wait so isn't Cole Scorpion's son? Seems like the didn't necessarily build on that connection during the final battle lol
What Easter Eggs did you guys pick up on? Kotal Khan and Nightwolf clippings Shinnok's amulet Jax fighting on the spike bridge The drawing of the fatality in Sonya's house The "Get over here" was painfully bad from a character that didn't speak English Apparently a TOASTY scene was cut
Gonna rewatch for the first time tonight. a little sad Shang Tsung didn’t shapeshift, but I’m guessing we’ll see him do that with Kung Lao in the next one.
You know i was talking with a friend today and we were saying they should've done a movie just about scorpion and subzero... and use it as a start to a cinematic mortal kombat universe. Literally do the playbook of marvel but instead of a giant battle, it leads to a legit tournament Mostly cause scorpion sub zero was the only good part of the movie
I’m in the boat of Ed Boon should be the only one to say ‘get over here’ but he apparently wanted nothing to do with the movie and thinks it sucks lol
I don’t think it sucks. But as a diehard, I definitely feel like the movie as is doesn’t exactly fully please diehards or casuals tbh. It’s got the looks down, some funny dialogue, and great action. Everything else feels forced or tacked on. iF i CoUld HaVe MaDe iT and I needed to use the same premise: It’d be following special forces as they’re trying to figure out what the tournament is. Hints of a great tournament in history, hints of Sonya’s previous partner dying from Kano making her a hard ass that has to learn to work with Jax. What does it all mean and who are these super naturally powered criminals that keep showing up around the world that they’re chasing dead end leads on. Eventually they get an alert of an energy spike of some sort again, like they see all over the world when warriors travel between realms (something they’ve been previously tracking.) They get to this one shortly after, and it’s in Hollywood at a movie set. Tone shifts, you see Cage working on a film, being snarky and condescending, and when things are wrapping up he gets confronted by idk Sub-Zero let’s say. They fight, he’s cracking lines about a stuntman going too hard, until he gets injured and starts to take it seriously. Almost loses until Sonya and Jax come in and fend him off. Cage gets the Cole treatment of story time, but his reactions and attitude towards it all would be amazing comic relief. The next time all three are attacked, Raiden intervenes, then the rest goes as is without Cole and more emphasis on the real characters. Sonya would’ve been great as a main lead, and I liked Jax a lot. That way we’re not only putting a woman and a black man as leads, but leads who don’t need a ton of backstory to take up space.
So bummed by the lukewarm consensus, going to catch this soon with my brother who's a massive fanatic of whole series and wife who knows nothing about it. Heading into viewing with tapered expectations so, maybe I wont be too dissapointed.
