DEFINITELY better than Annihilation lol. Is the original overrated? Haven't noticed anyone thinking it's a classic in the genre like Enter the Dragon, not even close, but it's still a fun movie that was definitely an event in the 90's and gets a surprising amount of stuff from the games right. The main issue with the new one is maybe that it gets so much right, the stuff that sucks stands out more.
Just watched. Cole is so, so bland. Kano steals the show. This feels kind of like a prequel to series that hasn't been made yet, was fun enough to get stoned and watch.
The original is a solid, fun movie but because video games movies typically are bad, that one gets treated like it’s much better than it actually is. I put it in the same category as Space Jam, LOVED it as a kid but I can’t help myself picking it apart as an adult and I can’t enjoy it the same way.
It was..... I think it met expectations. At times, I thought it was great but then once you realize there's no tournament, I lost interest. The good. Intro was excellent. Doing a thing with sub zero and Scorpion was great but totally agree about the craziness of Cole. So cole isn't even scorpion? And in the end it was 2 v 1...not a fair fight for poor sub zero. Cano was the movie. He was great. and Liu Kang spamming low swing sweeps made me actually laugh.. The bad. Main character and Sonya fucking sucked. A lot of bad acting all around but these two characters were awfully boring. Was it better than original? Idk. I was 12 and its nostalgia so I can't say.
I liked Sonya, thought she was cool. I was expecting them to do the no nonsense, militant Sonya liek the first movie so I was happy with what we got instead. the actress reminds me of someone else too...Rachel McAdams maybe?
I honestly spent half the movie trying to figure out who Cole was from the games until I realized he was an original character.
Haha also Coles daughter is ruthless huh. She's in his corner and he's getting his ass kicked, probably might die, and she's like "don't give up"... and looks sad when he does. Werd they trying to say this guys a quitter? I'm guessing thats what they were going for but haha alas
This isn’t even fair. Ludi Lin is so absolutely jacked/cut in this movie this is probably the one picture where he isn’t lol
I actually really like Liu Kang in this. It's kinda how I always imagined him to be portrayed in a film adaption. Calm and well disciplined but will kick someone's ass if he has to
Btw, I forgot Nightwolf was in Annihilation. I dug the quick shot of him in this, hopefully he shows up in a later movie.
Kitana, Nightwolf, Baraka are my big three for a sequel. Also the Kotal Khan Easter egg was a nice surprise.
