Holding off on that one til I can hear the record tonight, but all of these other singles have been killer. Very excite
Rodeo is one of the best on here for me. Whole thing is great though. Much better sequencing and variety on this one as much as I loved the last record.
That’s really good to hear. As much as a step up the last one was, variety was not its strong suit hah. Probably why Bottle Blonde excites me so much, though I expect that to be an outlier
Good record. It's not as instantly memorable as Household Name, but it's very strong. One thing I do miss is Allegra's catchy lead lines driving their music at times. There's less of that here, and it tracks with her past comments that she doesn't exactly enjoy having "to look down" at her fretboard during their shows. I'm not saying there's no lead guitar here; it's just not as prominent as it once was.
Really good stuff. Definitely a little less riffy and immediate than Household Name, but I don't mean that as a negative. The songwriting is there, and a lot of it honestly gave me Smashing Pumpkins vibes. "How to Breathe" into "Last Kiss" is insane lol one of their prettiest tracks into one of their heaviest. Really excited to spend more time with this.
This is a time capsule. It brings me back to those afternoons I spent watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Veronica Mars or Joan of Arcadia. Easy and breezy on the ears.
Solid listen, think the singles are the strongest on here and Last Kiss goes pretty hard. Probably will get a lot of plays this summer and should be a grower.
"How to Breathe" is definitely my favorite. The transition into the last 30 seconds reminds me of Oasis.
This rules. I liked the last album, but it did feel a little samey to me. The hooks and songwriting here feel like a solid step up.
Can anyone give me the story of this band? I heard speeding 72 a couple years ago and dug it but saw them and was underwhelmed. Couldn’t shake the “plant”-y vibes but a lot of people I trust like this band and I want to give them a fair shake.
Not a dig at you, just something I’ve never understood, but if the album is good who cares if they’re a “plant”
If I was being used as a plant by the industry I’d hope they’d do more for me than a couple records by Polyvinyl
