To each his own but putting Strangers over Long Drive is almost as wild as the dude in the Metallica thread that put St Anger over their first 4 records. Idk, Long Drive is just an all timer of a record to me.
I’m still (slowly) making way through all their releases and actually got to Strangers… today. It was fine. A couple of good tracks, couple of stinkers. Sugar Boats being particularly heinous. Can’t rank properly yet, but the stuff released between 96 and 01 are probably their best stuff. They’re the ones I’ve enjoyed most so far.
I was listening to some random songs on my way home from dinner. The last half of spitting venom might be my favorite song of theirs besides life like weeds.
It was the one song I had to skip half way through. It’s very annoying and the side of MM I’m not a fan of. Very much a post Float On song, which I’m also not a fan of. That song put me off checking them out for years.
We Were Dead would probably be around #5 for me but it has some bangers. Parting of the Sensory, March into the Sea, and Spitting Venom are all top shelf MM.
People as Places as People and Little Motels are also bangers. Honestly We Were Dead rips throughout imo.
drop Education, Steam Engenius and Fire It Up for Satellite Skin, King Rat and Whale Song and you have their best record imo
Me too. My only gripe is that it felt too short and not fleshed out enough. But it’s a fun song for sure. If it’s a taste of what’s to come, I’ll be happy. Also, apparently Janet Weiss played drums on it? Super cool
Also, “Float On” is one of those great songs that I’ve just heard way too many times. And my friend who was an addict said no song summed up the feeling of clarity when going through recovery than “The Good Times Are Killing Me.”
Float On is a great song and it’s no wonder why it was a huge hit. But I’ve heard it so much that I don’t need to hear it again for a while lol
