Don't forget the fact that Golden Casket is Volume 1 and Volume 2 was supposed to be out in 2022... MM is easily one of my favorite bands (The MM balloon is the only tattoo I have on my body), but waiting for new music is unbearable.
People used to talk about We Were Dead being their worst but I reach for that record all the time now. It's great.
I always loved "We Were Dead" but to be fair I started with "Good News" first then "we were dead" before I heard LCW and M&A. Also, I didn't like strangers at first, but not too long ago I found that it just suffers from a horrible track order. It's frontloaded with the worst songs. "S**t in your cut", "Pistol," & "Ansel" drag the whole album down, plus a somewhat intro song in "STO", and then the single "lampshades" which if you were a fan dying for new music you probably played the crap out of before release, you're pretty much tapped out before any of the really good songs show up. And then you have a great song in "Ground Walks" but then followed up with 2 good songs that slow the album down again, "Coyotes" and "Pups to Dust". The back half of the album from "Sugar Boats" on is fire.
That is straight blasphemy LMAO! Maybe the crazyiest MM take I've ever heard! The Best Room? Sugar Boats?
I like Building Nothing Out of Something, but I completely ignore Long Drive aside from Dramamine. I also loved the Golden Casket.
Long Drive is a fucking incredible record, I used to neglect it heavily but now it’s one I reach for often. I have an OG pressing of the vinyl for that one and just spun it a couple weeks back and had a great time. it’s a little over-long, but I don’t hate anything on it, and honestly the bit of bloat fits the vibe and title of the record to me so it’s barely a knock against it. I would probably consider it my 3rd favorite of their studio albums, behind Moon and Lonesome. there’s very little beyond No One’s First that I care for at all, but they were on an incredible streak up to that point.
I’m basic and Good News is my favorite. But my top tier trio is that, Lonesome Crowded West and Moon & Antarctica. Also basic I guess
Actually, Strangers To Ourselves was "The Golden Casket Vol. 1" and The Golden Casket is Volume 2. They talked about releasing more right after The Golden Casket, but that obviously hasn't happened yet haha
Lonesome Drive slander is extremely fucked up some of you have never talked shit about a pretty sunset and it shows
