Great write up @Aaron Mook! I share a lot of the same feelings with that record. Definitely my fav MM album.
Literally no one cares, but this is where I'm at right now, before I give The Golden Casket my first full listen: The Lonesome Crowded West Good News For People Who Love Bad News Building Nothing Out Of Something Strangers To Ourselves This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About Moon & Antarctica No One's First, And You're Next We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank The Fruit That Ate Itself Everywhere And His Nasty Parlour Tricks Night On The Sun Sad Sappy Sucker Interstate 8 I can't stress enough that I love every single one of those.
Just used Bias Sorter to help me figure out mine lmao The Moon & Antarctica Good News For People Who Love Bad News The Lonesome Crowded West (just moved up a spot or two today) This is a Long Drive For Someone With Nothing to Think About Everywhere & His Nasty Parlour Tricks We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank Building Nothing Out of Something Strangers to Ourselves The Fruit That Ate Itself Night on the Sun Interstate 8 No One's First And You're Next Sad Sappy Sucker Is it unpopular to think "We Are Between" is a better lead single than "Lampshades on Fire" at this point? Love that song, but it's very in line with "Dashboard" and other MM songs while "We Are Between" feels a bit fresher to me
Gonna throw mine out there from my most recent relisten: We were dead before the ship even sank Good news Lonesome Crowded West Moon and Antarctica No ones first and you’re next Everywhere and his nasty parlor tricks Strangers to Ourselves Long drive Then everything else is interchangeabe
I watched their Lolla performance on Hulu and unfortunately didn't think they sounded very good. I did see that they played Convenient Parking at the Lolla aftershow though, so that's pretty sweet if that's gonna be in the set on this tour.
Listened to all of Long Drive and man they just jam and rock out so hard on it. Absolutely love this album. The end of Make Everyone Happy/Mechanical Birds is absolutely insane. Is that a guitar making that sound?
Wow, I would have paid top dollar to be at this show. Havent been a huge MM fan since Strangers to Ourselves, but to hear Lonesome Crowded West front to back would be epic. Modest Mouse played 'Lonesome Crowded West' (almost) in full in Seattle
This is really unexpected. I would have taken a long, hard look at plane tickets if I'd known this was happening. With the way they typically mix up their sets, I'd be surprised if we got something like this again (especially for a tour).
Lol I'm dumb. I was waiting until the last minute to buy tickets because there were so many available. Now it's sold out.
The Cleveland show isn’t until June 5 but there are a TON of tickets still left. Wouldn’t be surprised to see something similar happen. Going from a 5K venue to a 2K.
I dont think Modest Mouse is nearly as popular of a draw the last five years. I was a big fan of theirs and saw them numerous times over the past 15+ years, but ever since Strangers To Our Selves I have no interest in seeing them live anymore. I dont like their last 2 albums and to be honest; their live shows arent that great these days. Havent been impressed with their performances since like 2010ish.
I have tickets to the CLE show, and am looking forward to it. I've seen them 3 times since 2016 and they were good to great at all three (some sound issues at one show, but the performance was good)
Anyone going to the 25th anniversary store and want to grab me one of those skatedecks? Ill pay shipping and toss in a few extra bucks on top of your cost.
https://uproxx.com/indie/modest-mouse-the-lonesome-crowded-west-oral-history/ The anecdote about Isaac leaving the studio during the last seven minutes of Truckers Atlas is so funny to me lol
These sound close to early 00s live arrangements, magical to hear em as a 3/4 piece TLCW isn't one of my favorite albums tbqh, but Moon is, and I really hope to see them do an anniversary tour in 3 years
