"Wicked Campaign" is the only song on that record I find boring, the rest is fun with some pretty classic MM guitar work and lyrical content
100% agree. I give it time and return and I'm like... This just isn't fun for me. I do love "The Best Room" though!
Can’t speak for all albums but the cover for We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank is one of my all time favorites of any band
The live iteration from the last few years is pretty damn tight, so glad new stuff is on the way I never found strangers as egregious as some make it out to be, the back catalogue more than makes up for the (very minor imo) misses on that album
I can't imagine not liking Strangers because it literally just sounds like a highlight reel of the two albums before it lol Also "Pistol" rules because it's absolutely bonkers. I mean, what are we here for
"These Western concerns are all I ever really learned to be concerned with But don't you, don't you know it's hard Feeling tired every time that you try? Ain't it hard feeling tired all the time?"
I actually don't mind Pistol, though Isaac's vocals are pretty rough in the first verse. I can fux with weird, but it really isn't all THAT weird. I'd like to hear them go full-on weird, like some Young Jesus / Mars Volta type shit. TBH it's not so much that the songwriting is bad. I just lose interest very quickly while listening to that record.
Strangers also has their best single: Lampshades hard to make self-aware, nihilistic criticisms of your own species so catchy.
I got very into MM over quarantine they were the last band I saw too that said I haven't been a huge fan of anything post-Good News so keeping my expectations low, but I really hope it's good
I do think Strangers is their weakest (though there are some great songs on it) but I never really understood the negativity towards We Were Dead.
