The only problem with Strangers is that it didn't match the impossible hype it set for most people for a band who hadn't released an album in eight years. Most people had sky-high expectations because of the long layoff in between albums. Notice I say 'most' because I think the album is still pretty good. Not top-tier Modest Mouse, but a very, very fine album.
There are so many strong tracks on STO: Lampshades, Shit in Your Cut, Ansel, Ground Walks, Coyotes, Sugar Boats, God is an Indian, The Best Room. I pretty much like every song on the album. Never skip anything.
Not to mention "The Tortoise and the Tourist." (I also love "Pistol," haha.) Really the only song I don't care for on STO is "Wicked Campaign." I like the album more than I like We Were Dead, fwiw.
The guitarwork on We Were Dead is amazing. Not the biggest fan of Strangers but I admittedly only listened to it maybe 3 times
I love Strangers, I think it holds up just fine to their other work, my only disappointment is the song "Poison The Well" they were playing live isn't on it!
Me too, though mostly up to Moon. Truckers Atlas is kind of crazy in that it made me love the sprawl so much
it's very very very hard for me to forget how vehemently i hated whatever single i heard from the album but like i know if i just give it a real real try i will get past it and at least appreciate it
Pistol is the only real dud on the album. The rest of it is good, but I can see how people think it pales in comparison to their previous work.
Still very into Pistol lol. I think a lot of that album is acceptable but boring, but at least that song is trying.
