Probably gonna watch that remote viewing documentary before listening to the album lol been listening to a lot of old Coast to Coast shows, so I'm in the mindset for that kind of thing.
That interview makes me more excited for this LP. He doesn't sound crazy to me which maybe says something about me haha.
Pleasantly surprised by this! Whoever said it sounds closest to We Were Dead was definitely correct. Feels super anthemic too, if it was the last MM album I think it’d be a pretty good note to end on.
I mean... the albums literally called The Golden Casket. And Strangers had "Golden Casket Vol I" imprinted on the back of the vinyl packaging. The writings been on the wall for years imo. I hope that's not the case though!
I came here to say how pleasantly surprised I am by it too haha. the singles didn't do much for me, but im fucking with it hard on my first listen.
Fwiw, in that interview with Kyle Meredith, he talked about why it took them so long, mentioned that they still have those songs from STO sessions and are happy with them, and then joked that the next one might come quicker, so knock on wood. I would be surprised if we didn't get at least one more record or compilation of unheard material at some point. He's busy being a parent, but he also seems happy.
I always thought there'd be more than one golden casket since the back of the STO vinyl says "the golden casket vol. 1"
I kinda figured the idea got abandoned since this one was just called "The Golden Casket", I definitely thought it would be a trilogy when I first saw the imprint on Strangers.
It sounded like there was almost a whole other record (that would've included "Poison The Well," "I'm Still Here," and "Ice Cream Party") that wasn't completed, and this record is a different batch of songs. I don't think we'll get a "Volume 3," but maybe we'll ultimately hear some of those shelved songs. All of the interviews really make it seem like there's no intention of stopping the band touring or not recording more in the future. I don't think that the word "casket" in the title is any more indicative of an end than the title starting with "We Were Dead."
"Fuck Your Acid Trip" is a wild opener I think I prefer "We Are Between" to "Lampshades on Fire" at this point
I didn't listen to any of the singles for this to go in without any expectations and... woof not feeling it at all so far
I like Never Fuck a Spider on the Fly. it’s Weatherbox-y edit: so does Back to the Middle. yeah I think I like those two. read the recent write-up and it sounds like he's been trying to dial back the weirdness? wish he wouldn't
"We're Lucky" def feels like a We Were Dead cut, like a combination of "People As Places As People" and "Little Motel." Gorgeous stuff
I am enjoying the production/engineering/“sound” of this record, more than any of their others since the golden years
Not feeling the verses on "Walking and Running," but the chorus is crazy. Is someone else doing vocals on parts of this? Wondered that about the chorus of "Fuck Your Acid Trip," too.
On "Wooden Soldiers" now and it def feels like a Good News/We Were Dead cut. Good stuff, production on this is really interesting. Was worried when I read about some of the IG-related lyrics in this one but they fit right in. "You bein' here, just bein' you's enough for me" is actually really sweet
