have you heard long drive? I think you would like it this is their emo record imo (an anthology actually) and the GOAT
I liked it a lot from the start but I distinctly remember on my first listen being a few songs in and thinking 'where are the rock songs?' I think its their best but not the one I'd recommend to a newcomer.
TM&A was the first one I heard, I got the CD from an FYE when I was 14? 15? I always loved it. It actually took me longer to get into LCW tbh
I cannot bear to disappoint @Aaron Mook :( I’ve never heard long drive. I’ll check these all out. Thanks!
I'm sorry if my comment put you on blast!! I hope This is a Long Drive treats you well, I personally prefer it to TLCW but I'm in the minority and they're both stellar! Please report back!
I prefer Long Drive to TLCW but both are impeccable. TMAA is my favorite. Cautiously excited for this new one. Got GA tickets for Philly, so happy to finally have live shows back :)
‘Devil in His Youth’ by Protomartyr, ‘Now Now’ by St Vincent, ‘Life of Possibilities’ and ‘Sentimental Man’ by Dismemberment Plan, ‘Psychopomp’ by Japanese Breakfast, ‘The Knock’ by Hop Along, ‘Big Day Coming’ by Yo La Tengo, ‘Secret Meeting’ by the National, ‘Erica Western Teleport’ by Emperor X, and most Hold Steady or Mountain Goats album openers stick out as killer ways to kick off an indie rock record.
Been a big Modest Mouse fan for almost 20 years and surprisingly my second least favorite of theirs is The Moon and Antartica. Its not a bad album, just bores me. Least Favorite is Strangers to Ourselves.
I'm telling you, any newcomer should just listen to tracks 2-5 on Good News for People Who Love Bad News. If you are not into that, this ain't the band for you.
Honestly just listen to "Ocean Breathes Salty," I can't imagine it changing your mind if you don't like anything else you've heard but it's a GOAT single
I also found that listening to their albums with the lyrics in front of me added a whole new layer of appreciation
