I've listened through about 10x. Honestly, it took several spins for it to click with me. The first few listens, nothing was sticking with me whatsoever, but eventually it did and now I’m super into this.
Wooden Soldiers is my #1 for sure, closely followed by Back to The Middle. Album has been on steady repeat since last week.
Yeah after having this for a week I absolutely love it. The only song that kinda feels out of place is lace your shoes.
that was a cool read. I'm still not feeling this but reading all the things you all loved about it makes me want to keep trying but even if this never grows on me, "you just being here being you's enough for me" justifies the whole album. one of my favourite moments in their discography
I'm not a fan of 80% of the album. Some of the lyrics and repetitive nature of some things are lazy and off-putting, but I really do like Transmitting Receiving. I honestly like Stranger To Ourselves more and I'm not a huge fan of that album. Also, We Are Between just feels like it was ripped from We Were Dead and that's kind of cool.
What song does it sound ripped from? "Lampshades on Fire" and "The Ground Talks..." (two songs I love) sound way closer to being a "Dashboard" rip than anything on the new album
Lampshades sounds so much more like it's from Good News. And it's something about the rhythm and effects of the guitar on We Are Between that makes it feel like it's a oceany type song that blends well with Florida, Dashboard and stuff like that.
I've had a few listens to this and like, don't love, it so far. I find myself drawn to the more sentimental moments. Back half of Wooden Soldiers is particularly phemonenal. Just came here to say I am listening to Strangers to Ourselves. And I just skipped Pistol and Ansel. And now that album is like really really good.
Also, speaking of my kids, 'Fuck Your Acid Trip' came on in the car last night and my wife made me turn it off
