It wasn't really a single. It was just supposed to be a teaser. It is akin to the short ditties they have on most of their albums. The new song is an actual radio single.
Kind of surprised “Remember Yourself” is so high up on the tracklist since the live videos for it sound really chill. Can’t wait to hear the studio version of it.
I like both of the new songs more than almost anything they've put out in the last 15 years. The one that came out today is definitely the better of the two though, it might be genuinely great.
"Look How Far..." is growing on me and I have a feeling it might work better in context. Ran through a few of their records yesterday - funny to think that We Were Dead was considered their "worst" for a long while when it's as great as it is. The quality of their discography is high enough that even the last two records clear a lot of other bands' late-career material.
Wikipedia has the tracks lengths and it says the entire thing is only 48:54 which will be interesting for a 15 song album.
Looks like everything is 3+ minutes with a couple of interludes around 30 seconds. I'll take it. I see a handful of songs around the 5-minute mark, too.
Had a real moment of contemplation last night where I wondered if "Spitting Venom" might be their best song. I don't know that it is, but it's gotta be top 10.
Listening to the songs they've played live, "Remember Yourself" is gorgeous, definitely Ugly Casanova vibes. "Third Side of the Moon" is going to fuck me up all over again. These have to be some of my favorite Isaac lyrics ever: "Am I the shade or a shadow? Well I can't really tell/And I still just can't remember if your eyes were green or blue or brown/I wish I'd paid attention the the words that you had said/But you always spoke in whispers, and I wasn't too good at listening"
Sorry if I'm being annoying or over-enthusiastic in the Modest Mouse thread but I just love this fucking band, man.
I’ve intentionally been avoiding hearing the live versions of the new songs because I wanna go into this with fresh ears
Guess I better finish my discography run through, then. Although tbf i've only got their last album to listen to, so not exactly strenuous.
I'm with you....and I didn't truly dig in to their discography until like 2015 when I happened to be in a rut in my life and this music helped me so much feeling there were people out there who understood what I was feeling
