they were a lot of fun when i saw them a few days ago they do a good mix of stuff across the first five and the new album. only song from strangers + casket i saw was back to the middle but i have no complaints lol i love that song and it was massive live
I never thought about liking WWD more but I realized I have actually probably listened to it more overall. Still mad they didn't end the record with King Rat like they were originally going to.
I would love to see them in October and am still debating purchasing tickets for PGH but my wife and I are planning an actual vacation in September and haven't been on a trip in five years so that probably takes presedence. At least I've seen them before
Love this record but am surprised to see people call The Golden Casket "underwritten" (it has "Lace Your Shoes" on it!) while this album has stuff like "Turns out not giving a fuck is not the same as being zen/Well, I just figured this out, but for the wrong reasons" and "Life's fucking awesome and I know that it is/I know it is because I'm living it" lol
I admire you trying so hard to get people to give Casket another chance but that album simply sounds so bad to my ears lol. I find the instrumentation really really hard to get past. They incorporated the glitchy electronic stuff way more naturally on this one I think.
My top 4 on the album; Third Side of the Moon, Absolutely Necessary Never, Impossible Somedays, and Life's A Dream. Already started skipping on replays; Dogbed, Interlude, I Cant Talk Right Now, Stoner Party!
I wasn’t super into Dogbed at first, but it’s grown on me. It kinda reminds me of a Mermaid Avenue song
Definitely some cring lines on this album. The "I'm living it" line is particularly bad. I'll defend Casket with you! I think it's more interesting than this one.
Knowing this started as a potential Ugly Casanova project is interesting. I can hear that in "Remember Yourself," "Dog Bed," and "Rotten Fruit." I wonder if we'll ever get a proper second album from that project.
it in a weird way also makes the first ugly casanova album feel a little more embedded in the modest mouse canon too
Where'd you see this? I thought I'd read that they were floating work on another Ugly Casanova album (and saying that it would probably sound really different to Sharpen Your Teeth), but didn't remember seeing that about this record.
I believe it was in the original press release or the first interview that came out with this record (Probably early in this thread?) I can try to find it after work
I have always felt this way tbh, great record which makes sense considering the quality of Isaac's output around the time of release
Dogbed reminds me of a song Isaac would have done for that 180 south soundtrack. Well the first part anyway.
A song so weird and unique that I’ve only listened to it like twice but could sing the whole thing to you
