Modern Hip-Hop and Philosophy

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by Aaron Mook, Nov 15, 2016.

  1. Hey everyone,

Opening this thread up mostly for suggestions (looking for hip-hop essentials from 2000 onward) but also to discuss my thesis topic that was just approved, Modern Hip-Hop and Philosophy. I know it's a topic that's been discussed before, and I'm excited to dig into that. For the purposes of my research, the cutoff for an artist to be "modern" is that their first release (mixtape or otherwise) must have been released sometime during or after 2000.

Looking forward to your suggestions as well as sharing my thoughts and research with you!

Mos Def x Talib Kweli's Black Star album comes to mind for this

  6. Yep, they and Drake are definitely going to be the mainstream focus of my paper. Looking more for essential albums/artists that are sometimes overlooked and should be featured/analyzed
