Cool package but yeah $80 is a bit too steep for me for an album I already own. Might cop some of the clothes tho.
I’m helping a friend who loves Modern Baseball get into some new music that is similar and could use some help with recommendations. The wrinkle is they aren’t into gruff/growly vocals, yelling, obscured/indecipherable lyrics, long stretches of super instrumental noodly emo music, or the really slow soft emo side of that revival era. So a lot of the algorithm-suggested comps for MoBo on Spotify and Apple Music are less helpful. They also aren’t looking for any bands that have been involved in dicey stuff or have allegations around their current or former members (like Front Bottoms). What they do like is the less-mature millennial teen anxiety/angst lyrics that are easy to hear and the energetic pop-punk/emo music. Some bands they say they found via the streaming app recommendations are Moose Blood, Mom Jeans, and Michael Cera Palin. If my friend was down with some gruff vocals, yelling, and some noodly instrumental breakdowns or softer slower stuff, there’d be like 5,000 bands I could recommend. But this has stumped me! Thanks for any/all help!
Harrison Gordon, maybe? Not sure if the vocals get a little too gruff for their specific tastes but it’s in the wheelhouse for sure. Moose Blood maybe not the best rec if you don’t want any past allegations.
I’m glad! He’s from my hometown (though he’s quite a bit younger than me so I’ve never met him) and seems like a cool guy.
I never connected Weakerthans to MoBo but they are awesome and I’ve dug them since Reconstruction Site came out. I shared that rec and my friend was new to them and into it. Thanks.
I haven't seen Slaughter Beach, Dog mentioned but idk if thats outside of what your friend is specifically looking for. Early SBD stuff sounds very similar to MoBo imo.
I should have included that. They do NOT like SB,D. I think he toned down a lot of the MoBo affects which is fine with me but it makes them not scratch the itch for my friend.
I'm surprised there isn't more buzz about them here but hey nothing has been scratching the Modern Baseball itch. Their new EP is the closest I've felt to another band giving sports vibes.
I tried months ago. Crickets. they’ve also been working with Andy Hull lately. hey, nothing (band) • forum.chorus.fm
