Picked this up at my local Bull Moose this morning. At $8.97, I couldn't resist. I was surprised to see it featured in the new release section in store even above Pierce the Veil. Thought that was pretty cool. I'm really digging it more upon second listen (I streamed it earlier in the week.) I like the maturity as opposed to You're Gonna Miss It All.
Not the biggest Modern Baseball fan by any means, always found their stuff kind of boring and derivative. That being said, listening to this and got through the first half and it's by far the best stuff I've heard of them. Only criticism is the vocals are a bit tepid and weak at times. Note To Self and Hiding are great though.
Second half was pretty good as well, loved Just Another Face. Such a contrast between the two halves, I get they're trying to show the difference in songwriting and keep their own 'story' type thing separate but it would work a lot better to mix it properly imo.
I could never get into them either, but the review on this site really piqued my interest. Can't wait to go home and spin this plus Chance 3 tonight.
Yeah definitely give it a go, it does feel a bit more grown up than their other two, you may like it! Also need to listen to Chance 3 later tonight haha
Count me as one of those that didn't dig any of their previous work but really enjoying some of this.
I enjoyed this album, but I'm definitely more drawn to the second half. The songwriting and vocals are much stronger on that half.
As someone who never "got" Modern Baseball's previous records, I'm surprised to say I like this as a whole. I'm not feeling a huge divide between the first and second halves.
Yeah, I love the whole thing, but I like the idea of being able to put on either side and still feel like I'm listening to something complete.
Damn, this is 1000x better than their previous albums. Which means it's pretty good but nothing special. A couple of true bangers though.
Note to Self reminds me of Turnover's self-titled EP for some reason, which is probably why I like it.
I feel like I enjoyed a song or two from the one record but most of it was a bit too obnoxious for me. They're local dudes and I feel bad for how much I shit on them without really giving them a shot. The second song is good, certainly has a Weakerthans vibe to his voice
Going into this blind of any reactions or overhype or whatever, I could see a ton of people fucking with this who will probably wind up shitting on it without listening
i think it's entirely alright but nothing more. and i didn't like this band at all. it's weakerthans with worse lyrics and vocals on the front side, and some killers worship on the back end. nothing that brings me back but it's not bad, and far and away their best material
So far (on track 6) the vocals are easily the hardest part to get through but I could see myself really enjoying them on multiple listens. I'll sit with the lyrics when I get home, but I'm liking it so far
