Modern Baseball have canceled all their upcoming tour dates and are taking a break from the band for a while: Hey everybody, Jake here. As much as it pains me to say this, we have decided to cancel our upcoming U.S. tour dates and festival appearances to take a break from Modern Baseball for a little while. If you already bought tickets for the tour, refunds will be available at point of purchase. Over the past few months the band has become an immense source of anxiety for me, and it wasn’t until I opened up to Sean, Ian, and Brendan about it that we realized we were all feeling the same way. The project we started as a source of joy and positive expression had become something that was slowly eating away at our mental health and our friendships. We have been championing the importance of mental health for a while now, and we recently realized that it would be wrong for us to ignore our own health any longer. Please know that we don’t take a tour cancellation lightly, and under any other circumstances we would not even consider it an option, but in this instance we have to put our health and friendships first. You’ve supported us unconditionally throughout this crazy ride and we could never thank you enough. We never really learned how to do this whole “rock band” thing the right way, but you kept coming to the shows and talking to us and assuring us that we’d figure it out sooner or later. We could not have done any of this without you. Be honest with those you love and don’t be afraid to lean on them when you need to. Odds are they’ll need to lean on you pretty soon too. Love this band but I'd rather they take a break than do a tour anxiety ridden and sad. Hopefully they come back eventually with a new album.
I don't feel like they are calling it quits. Just a break like they said. Hope they all can get the much needed rest and help they need.
Don't really like the band outside of some of the last album, but I'm rooting for them to return to a more healthy state.
It's interesting how much this band takes seriously the presence of mental illness. I hope the rest of the scene takes note, especially the bands that like fetishizing sadness.
Great explanation. Really great band and I hope they can come back when they are all in a better mental state. Shame I never got to see them live but fingers crossed our paths will cross in the future.
Takes a lot too realize you need a break and talk to people about it. I feel like a lot of people try to "push through" that and never get the time they need to figure things out. Hopefully this break gives them all some relaxation and peace of mind before they get back at it, if they do decide they want to keep touring & making music.
Good for them for realizing they needed a breather and going through with it. Although it is rough for the fans and everyone else involved. This was a big tour run for Kevin Devine and other bands on the bill to just lose out on.
I've read too many band biographies to know how hard constant touring/recording is on any band. Kudos to them for being proactive.
Well it's a bummer to hear this and how they're doing but I hope they take all the time they need to get better
So bummed, but I love the guys and want the best for them, and hopefully they come back healthier and better than ever.
I can't imagine how cross country touring and all the logistics that go into that couldn't be a source of anxiety. Better for them to take a break now and maybe do something in the future then to try and push through and be burnt out and done forever. Wish them the best.
