There's no scenario where that ends well. He either knocks someone out like he is expected to or someone takes him down and smothers him worse than CM Punk. Or, like we've seen before, he underestimates the cardio needed for the clinching and grappling and barely lasts a round on the feet.
You have to assume they'd want to at least try and make him look competitive? Any blue belt would take him down easily and it's not like he has knockout power to worry about. Awful idea. I'll posit what Ariel said:
Conor posted some shit on IG about training Russian officials at the request of Putin. MMA fighters just can’t seem to get enough of viscous authoritarians, it seems.
Sucks we couldn't get a replacement in for Rivera. Still might buy 219 depending on my social plans for that evening.
I seem to be in the minority of people who are split on Conor. I give him props for his wins over Holloway, Mendes, Aldo, Nate, Alvarez, etc. especially since some of those were on short notice. He's achieved some great things but let's not pretend he hasn't been given ample opportunities that no one else has been given because the UFC has created a ton of double standards. You don't have to be a "hater" to acknowledge the truth.
I’m a Conor fan because he never disappoints. All the stuff about him not defending is fair but it doesn’t bother me as much. I’ll watch him fight anytime he’s out there.
He's a lot more fun if you just accept he has quality wins and a carefully managed career best suited for this modern age of MMA.
I’ll give him a pass, but he def needs to fight by April, and what he did for MMA respect and exposure in aug was massive but he has to be defending that belt by April v Fergo
I agree, but even in his defense, there have been other champs (GSP, Aldo, Cruz) who have gone as long without a defense due to injury. It sucks, but I still hope he gets things moving sooner than later.
Ok guys since every other site is doing it, I want to ask you... Submission of the Year Knockout of the Year Fight of the Year Fighter of the Year Biggest Story of the Year And just for fun...Breakout Star of 2018
Submission of the Year - Mighty Mouse Armbar at UFC 216 Knockout of the Year - Ngannou murders Overeem Fight of the Year - Medeiros vs. Oliviera Fighter of the Year - Holloway/Mighty Mouse tie Biggest Story of the Year - McGregor/Mayweather fight if anything changes after tonight i'll edit. also i think holm gets the big upset tonight. just a gut feeling
Same! Holm is the only woman that I think can survive an early onslaught from Cyborg, and then have the power left to strike back.
Holly is always who I've favored most against Cyborg. Tough, calm/collected, and a decent stylistic match up. Hoping she can get it done since she SHOULD have had the belt the first time. We'll see.
