As much as I dislike Jon Jones as a human being, you should never miss an opportunity to miss the GOAT fight.
It's tough ay On one hand. Conor has made this company a small fortune in the last 12 months. And they don't get as big a piece of the pie as the boxing game. And I really think he needs to put his all in training for a man who beat him last fight. But on the UFCs side. Promo is what makes them the money and those nice suits Conor wears. And everybody else still had to show up. It's a tough situation. Massive power struggle. Nether will want to back down and especially with the ufc already being accused of giving Conor favours in the past
The fight is 3 months away. There's no excuse he couldn't be there, and pretending otherwise is foolish.
I do take it to consideration that it's hard to talk about smashing someone's face in when you saw a man have it done resulting in a death a week earlier by your friend. But I'm sure Dana and he could work around this
Rooting for: OSP, Cejudo (strictly a shake up), Pettis, Whittaker, Rodriguez. Picking: Jones, DJ, Pettis, Whittaker, Rodriguez.
Hell of a fight from Barboza. He took it to Pettis and didn't let him get comfortable for even a second. These next two are going to be interesting. It will most likely be DJ and Jones, but I think people are stupid for acting like Cejudo and OSP don't have a chance. I especially like Cejudo.
It seems like MM is only getting better... That's a scary thought. Cejudo had the slight advantage I had hoped for at the beginning by cutting him off, clinching, and taking him down. MM adjusted immediately and used the very next clinch to END the fight. Almost unbelievable how good he is.
Threw $20 on a stupid seven fight parlay. Was 5/5 but of course to win legit money, I took Cejudo and OSP and lost it which I completely expected but could have (in a dream world) cashed out $6100.
Jones looking a little rusty. Think he needs to get comfortable in there again in order to be as aggressive as he typically is. He looks like he feels a little uncoordinated or something. Edit: and to further my point, as soon as it hit the ground, he looked to be in his comfort zone.
So you're telling me...Jones had a boring decision win and Mighty Mouse had an awesome 1st round win? Crazy haha You could tell Jones just didn't feel like himself. Just tentative and was probably nervous fighting a short notice opponent. That said, he still dominated. That just shows how good he is.
Jon Jones leaving the octagon, stare down DC and flip him the bird. Worth the $45 price tag. And Mighty Mouse is absolutely unreal.
Barboza was most impressive. MM is perfection. Jon Jones is Jon Jones. Props of OSP for going the distance. Solid event.
Pretty much sums it up. Jones is still the same to me as he always was. Just rusty, but he'll be back to normal in his next fight. It seems like Mighty Mouse is finally getting the respect he deserves, although it's long overdue. I think if he breaks Anderson's title defense record, he should move up in weight and challenge for that belt. I've said for years that I thought Frankie Edgar would be the third two-division champion in the UFC, but it would be legendary if someone like Demetrius could do it on a record-breaking streak.
Didn't think it was a terrible fight by any means, but certainly not something I'll be rushing to watch again. Jones and OSP both looked tentative, but much like what's already been said, it's a testament to just how good Jones is that he can not look his best and still dominate a fight. Expect him to look crisper next time out. Mighty Mouse, on the other hand, wow. The guy just keeps getting better and better. I felt Cejudo was a very live dog going into this fight, and he showed flashes of what he may be able to do to stifle MM early, but my oh my, what a performance from the champ. His striking continues to improve, and that is bad, bad news for the rest of the division... whoever that may be (Reis or Scoggins with another win? I have no idea)
It really doesn't matter in regards to the flyweight division. There isn't anyone that can touch DJ. He's going to need to move up to 135 to have even a remote shot at competition.
