This was possibly my favorite card of all time. It would have been one thing for the belts to change hands by close decisions but all three champs got flattened. Plus, GSP, who was already considered the GOAT to a lot of people, just won the fucking Middleweight belt. He looked great (although a little tired), but I hope he retires just to avoid ruining that glorious record. Nearly spotless. Edit: also funny to think about how Johny got stopped by an unranked up and comer on the same card where GSP won the belt.
Is he retiring? I thought he was unsure about his next move. Side note - does the term "undisputed" bother anyone else? Shouldn't you not use that when there is already an existing Interim Champ? Or does that word not really mean anything?
I thought this was a weird one because all three champs ran their mouths like crazy to get into their opponents' heads and none of them were successful. I would say TJ was the most affected just because of the history there but he kept his cool. He was possibly seconds away from getting finished.
That's always bothered me. If there's an interim belt, then isn't it always disputed? Regardless, tremendous night of fights.
Nothing wacky happening for 217 only confirmed we'd have to pay the tab down the line Let's figure out Cub's contract and slide him in against Holloway. I'd love to see Cody v Rivera, but that may be too quick of a turn around.
Bellator heavyweight title tourney: Fedor, Mir, 'Rampage,' Sonnen among big names booked Shoot it straight into my veins.
Listening to GSP's MMA Hour appearance... How can you not love the guy? He's so real and analytical about everything. Super humble about everything and never claims he's the best. It was refreshing to hear his take on the GOAT discussion and how his strength is being able to perform when it matters even if he is not the best of all time. I also loved how he said he's only kept one belt he's ever gotten and has given each of his other belts to his former coaches and mentors. So damn cool.
Oh dude, GSP is the fucking man. I feel like other fighters for a very long time wanted to find out he was juicing or greasing up for fights cause he's just all around the full package and delivers every time. Watching him come back and beat Bisping is an all time great moment for me as a fan.
I agree. He doesn't sugar coat things, good or bad. There are some people (like Carlos Condit) who will refuse to say anything negative about anyone and are gentlemen all the time or there are the opposite...which is much more prevalent in this sport (for obvious reasons). But GSP is just himself. He talks about being scared and not liking fighting, he's very analytical and talks about things in detail but still always stays away from the drama. He's like the one guy in the sport that truly lives that old school fighting attitude where he just cares about testing himself and getting better.
Wikipedia is a funny place. Edit: The notes say "Won the UFC Featherweight Championship. Knockout of the Night" LOL.
You're going to feel real stupid when that ends up happening and you realize a time traveler edited that Wiki
