Going to the show tomorrow. Stoked to see Weidman at his home arena. Hoping for a great performance

I still like Weidman a lot and I think he has a strong chance of winning although I'm leaning towards Gastelum myself. I know dropping three in a row (and being finished) seems huge considering he was undefeated before, but I guess I just don't look that far into it. Middleweight is just a really fucking strong division.

His wins over Anderson had people thinking he was some sort of striking prodigy, but it's easy to look back and see the bigger picture now.

Good fight from Weidman. Glad to see him get a win of this caliber. I knew he had a good chance when I saw the size disparity. Haha.

Pretty good fights for the most part. Let's get through this week and get to Jones/DC.

    Who ya got this weekend?

I am going with: Lawler, Cyborg, Maia, and Jones.

A lot of great fights on this card. The prelims are gonna be awesome, too.

It says a lot about what people think of Cormier in that no matter who he's fighting, everyone wants to see somebody else hold that title. Still very upset about that Rumble fight. Rumble in his prime v Jones would've been huge.

I like DC a lot. It bugs me that he gets so much shit. I would be super happy for him if he won. But I just think Jones has too much talent. Like, otherworldly.

But if he comes back and fights like he did against OSP, he is gonna have problems.

  11. I just wanna see Gustafsson get the title

I don't and never liked Cormier even before he was champion. Then the towel incident? I count the days until he loses it. Hopefully that count is 3.

Like and dislike both Jones AND Cormier at the same time. It's just fascinating to me. I loved Jones back before he fought Stephan Bonner. I knew he would be champ some day. He was this nice, intelligent kid who was destined for greatness....until it became public knowledge that he was actually a scumbag - then it became fun to hate him even though he's still probably the GOAT.

Cormier also has one of the best stories. His dad was murdered, lost his daughter in a car wreck, was the number 2 seed in the Olympics until he had to pull out...comes into to Strikeforce as a heavyweight and blows through the Grand Prix as an alternate.

DC cheating at the weigh-ins and not even trying to hide it makes this rivalry that much better. They've both blown through every opponent by miles outside of Gus but both are easy to dislike (and both hate each other). I don't see why the UFC doesn't try to promote this as the number 1 and 2 PFP guys fighting each other.

Jones, Woodley, Cyborg, Cowboy (I guess? That shit can go 100's of different, violent ways.)

Cormier is probably the more "likable" person as a whole, but put these two together and it brings out the best and worst of them. Add to it that they're both so far and above their peers, there's nothing like it. Too bad it's been buried in the shadow of May/Mac.

Yeah it is pretty astounding to think about this match up. They've gotten through so many champs between the two of them, and without even that much effort. There's so much of a story and history behind these two guys that the focus is mainly on their rivalry rather than the ungodly amount of talent they have between the two of them.

Edit: I think I'm going with Cormier here. I think Jones is just a wild card right now. I'm not sure why some people have acted like DC has no chance because I would not be surprised to see either guy win.

Man, think about their run. JJ went on a legend's killing tour while DC bulldozed through a who's who of heavyweights(!) before their first meeting. Then DC cleaned out the other LHW contenders. Good thing Gus looked decent against both or there'd be absolutely zero other match ups after this that make sense.

I'm really glad Gus is still there and arguably even bested Jones. He's the only one who didn't fall down the ranks, drop down a division or leave the organization (or retire like Rumble).

It's easy for a division to look weak when you have a dominant champ...this one has two.

Excited for tomorrow night! Biggest fight card in awhile. I got Jones, Maia, Cyborg, Cerrone, Manuwa, Lamas, Sterling, and Ortega.

Same on all but the final two fights.

Jones/DC is a toss up for me but I'm going to pick DC because I want to see that rubber match either way. haha.

Maia/Woodley is another toss up but I'm going to go with Woodley. For some reason, it seems like fighters who drop down in weight (even champions and contenders) just can't get that title in the lighter division regardless of how much success they've had. Edgar, Pettis, Machida, DC (until Jones vacated), Benevidez, Faber, etc. all came up short when they challenged... Who knows.

Cerrone vs. Lawler was awesome, as expected. I personally had it scored a draw under the new rules, though. Cerrone absolutely dominated that second round where Robbie only landed three total strikes. I don't know, just seems like that was a prime example of a new 10-8 round, but whatever. Great fight.

  22. I thought Cerrone won but oh well

  23. Woodley is the worst champ

Maybe so, but I give him a break because he's had the shittiest draw of contenders. Lawler is exciting but he KOed him quickly. Wonderboy and Maia have made all of the other top guys look like clowns, so I you gotta give him props for shutting them down, regardless of how unexciting.
