Makes me hopeful we might see Fedor end up in the HOF since a majority of his prime was in Pride I have negative interest in seeing him actually fight
Hahaha the passion in Jon Anik's voice is so funny. Something about that word sounds...not good with an American accent.
That dude really ripped a gay slur on national television after winning he’s either getting fired or a bonus from goofball Dana
I can’t believe that. He just walked him down and beat him with simple boxing, a great shell defense, and a few push kicks. Haha. This is one of the most impressive championship upsets ever IMO. Simply because Izzy has beaten everyone, of all styles, and Sean has lost to a handful of the other guys, yet Sean beat him solidly for five straight rounds. It wasn’t a fluke, it wasn’t a lucky punch, it wasnt a crazy sequence, etc.
Also, if you would have told me that multiple people were going to drop slurs on the mic during this event, I would have never guessed that Strickland wasn’t one of them.
Not sure if I'm with Dana on the immediate rematch between Izzy/Sean right away but what can you do Also seemed like there might've been more there besides Fedor just being in the new UFC game (please do not do this, we don't need to see this man fight again)
Yeah, he’s had 0 title defenses since winning it back from Alex so I don’t know how you can justify it. Also, I haven’t really seen anyone else say this so maybe I’m way off, but I honestly wouldn’t doubt it if Izzy was a little bit out of it after being dropped in the first round. I know he won the second round, but he could never get a rhythm going and looked “off”. If he was rocked that badly, then all the more reason for him to take a break.
It looked like Izzy kept trying to land the same hook that Alex put him down with and had nothing else planned. Incredible bummer to watch but yeah, he definitively took the title. Feel like him and DDP make sense and Izzy having lost the title twice now should be facing contenders.
Small rant, but this most recent card just reminds me how much it irritates me that people constantly rank Khabib's career over people like DJ, Anderson, GSP, Jones, Nunes, etc. Sure, the guy was maybe one of the most dominant and skilled fighters we've ever seen...but it completely undersells how insanely difficult it is to stay on top as a champion for years at a time. Even recently, you can look at Valentina, Kamaru and now Izzy. All three of them had multiple occasions where people claimed "There's no one else. They should retire". Kamaru was fighting repeat contenders while Izzy and Valentina were basically letting lower-ranked people skip the line simply because there weren't many options left. They all looked virtually unbeatable - almost like Khabib - yet somehow, someway, someone unsuspecting rose up and took their belt from them. There's 0 reason to just assume Khabib would have been any different than them and to just go ahead and give him the GOAT title without having seen him actually do it.
Kinda not surprising. He’s been gatekeeping for a minute and I don’t think has the speed to hang with the best of his division anymore, but probably is worth/costs more than the UFC is willing to resign for now at this stage.
Also makes sense given WWE is doing layoffs tomorrow since the merger went through this week. Wouldn’t be surprised if the UFC gives some expensive vets the boot. Brunson is incredibly solid/UFC caliber, but is older and doesn’t draw at all. It’s going to suck for some guys like him who get the axe.
Had no idea he was almost 40. He had a fight booked and everything. definitely one of the GOAT gatekeepers for a division
