If there was one comment on any of the posts reporting this saying ‘She hit him ‘first’ it would be too many. The amount of comments saying this is fucking disgusting.
Jesus man. What is going on? Seems like we are hitting one of those strides where you can’t check the (MMA) news without something wild going on.
Ariel has his Annual MMA Awards show live right now, and he's making some good points about all of the current MMA news. He's mainly talking about Stephan Bonner but basically saying how we're bound to keep seeing stuff get worse and worse with all of these MMA fighters from the late 2000s-era because none of them are set up with any sort of pension plan or safety net when they retire. Even someone like Stephan who gave so much to the sport (and UFC specifically) was left hanging. He had physical and mental health problems for years, his house burned down, he was in financial trouble... No help from the UFC. Obviously they can't help everyone who's ever fought in the UFC, but if they can't help someone in their own hall of fame, then these tragic stories are just going to keep popping up in the coming years. One quote I thought was funny: "Everyone complains about Jake Paul disrespecting and 'killing off' our legends of the sport...but as it stands, Jake Paul is the only pension for retired MMA fighters. There's nothing else."
Ariel and co. had a pretty good discussion about this as well just now at the end of the awards show. Basically not expecting any major action or reaction to come from this unless people are upset about it enough to to quit paying for UFC. ha. The only thing I see getting remotely affected enough to elicit a response is his slap league since his name is so heavily tied to it and, well, you know...it's slapping. I could see people making a big deal about that or even sponsors being iffy about it.
I can’t stand the general lump sum of fans that came to watching the UFC because of Conor in the last however many years. Stupidity and ignorance galore. The jokes I see about Baroni’s dead girlfriend almost got me to regress into arguing on the internet. Instead I just unfollowed the pages.
The majority of mma fans have always been shit even long before conor. The sport attracts meatheads, there’s just no denying that
Dana White’s Power Slap League removed from TBS programming schedule ahead of expected launch - MMA Fighting And so it begins
Hahaha. That update was not there when I originally posted the article. That's hilarious. I'm sure part of their removing of it from the website and the bump in scheduling is probably a soft attempt at waiting for it to blow over.
Oh no I totally realised that! Sorry, I didn’t mean at all for that they come across at you. Just pathetic they bumped it a week is all!
I mean if they cared about domestic violence like they pretend to with every other sport they’d care. However the money they make from UFC is obviously more important which is why they’ve shut down any of their own journalists from giving any sort of honest coverage of the story.
What have that done in the past with other sports? Greg Hardy being on the first ESPN card showed their hand if you ask me.
I feel like they’ve at least covered other issues like this more critically with other sports. Obviously it’s different since Dana is the face of the UFC and it’s a PR disaster for a brand they are basically married to at this point. I totally get what your saying and I’m not surprised in the least. Shit like this has been ignored for a long time.
It was a legitimate question, I wasn’t sure if they’d done things in the past. Sadly money talks. I feel like the UFC and ESPN are closer than say the NBA/NFL and ESPN, but still, if this happened to the head of one of those organisations, I wouldn’t expect ESPN to do anything about it.
