If anything, it doesn't inspire much faith in the athletic commission putting the fight on. If they're screwing up the weigh in, what else can they miss?

How does boxing handle the weigh cutting so well? I could be completely mistaken in assuming that they don't miss weight very often...but guys in the UFC are just flat out horrible.

Boxing has more weight divisions and more catchweight fights. Makes it a lot easier to make weight.

I suppose more, and evenly spaced, weight classes is a good starting point. The whole mentality is different as well. MMA leans heavy on wrestling mentality, where you cut to a weight to have a size advantage. Boxing you start smaller and grow into weight classes. It's a tricky question honestly with no one good answer. I'm with you though, fighters should be fighting closer to their natural weight.

    This too.

New York has been whacky at each card. Misread results for Woodley vs. Thompson at MSG, terrible decision for Silva vs. Brunson and awful officiating for Holm vs. de Randamie in Brooklyn, and now they have sketchy weigh in results in Buffalo. The state commission isn't doing so hot. Always controversy.

Anyway, I was going with DC, but after this weigh in thing I just can't put my faith in him. Think AJ takes it now. Have no idea how Weidman/Mousasi is going to go. Chris needs it more, but Mousasi has the power to catch him if he slips up again.

I don't want to see either guy lose, but stylistically, I think Mousasi is too good. I feel like he eats him up on the feet and has gotten his takedown defense where it needs to be to deal with Chris. Saying that feels so weird. Never would have thought I would be picking Weidman to lose his third in a row.

I've always kind of felt like Mousasi is probably the best in the division, and he has pretty much given it away in all of his losses (the Jacare fight being my only exception).

Think Mousasi has won his last three by knockout while Chris has lost two in a row by knockout. Could mean nothing, could mean everything.

Commentators are getting it right. Without a replay, the whole thing is fucked. Mousasi threw legal shots, Dan did the right thing by stopping the fight because he thought they were illegal, Chris did the right thing by taking his time that he had been given.

Chris didn't ASK for the fight to be stopped, but he should have said he didnt need the time. Not his fault or anything, but they might not have stopped the fight if he had been able to continue from legal blows.

Well before replay, everybody was saying they were illegal knees. It wasn't until Rogan almost had an aneurysm asking for a replay and they slowed it down and only then was able to see that they were legal knees. In real time, I am sure Weidman thought he was safe. Mousasi lifted him and those fingers came off the mat almost right before the knee hit.

    Just a shitty situation.

    Rumble just retired...

    What in the hell....

That's what I mean. Weidman wasn't wrong for taking the time he was legitimately given, but when they figured out the knee was legal, and they just said "Wait, Chris already said he couldn't continue without more time. Guess he's done".

In other news, DC earned that. Can't believe Rumble retired, but I guess after hitting the Cormier wall twice, I can't blame him. Also happy he gave a shout out to Goldy.

so apparently Rumble's twitter bio/header changed after his fight tonight....he said after the fight that he was leaving for something lucrative....strange.

    Rumble threw that fight. 100%.

I wouldn't say that. I think he's just not nearly as mentally tough as people think. He looks great in all of those fights where the guys are scared of him, but I think he had a mental block knowing DC already took his best shot and still manhandled him last time. That, combined with the fact that he apparently already knew it would be his last fight, and I think he wasn't too confident in there.

Why wouldn't his corner join him in the ring? Why take a title you know you're going to have stripped from you once you retire? If the UFC was privy to him leaving after this fight, it's easier to have a champion and let him keep defending rather than figuring out a new Champion. Offer Rumble a bit more money, advise him to do things Cormier can capitalize on, and then tap out within 2 seconds of a choke? DC wins again with an extremely unimpressive fight.

    1) His corner didn't join in the ring because it's possible they didn't know he was going to PUBLICLY retire on the spot. They also generally interview the winner first so his corner thought they had more time either way.

    2) Is it that crazy to think he wanted to retire on top and this was his final opportunity to do so?

    3) He said during the interview that Dana didn't even know he was retiring, so I don't think the UFC had much of a "plan" for him. You'd be making a ton of assumptions to say it was a work. His corner being unaware of his post fight speech and him wanting his title fight to be his final fight (as with Dan Henderson) is irrelevant to it being a fix.

If anything, it makes even MORE sense that he didn't tell the UFC that he was retiring or else they might not have given him the title shot in the first place. I think you're just overlooking how much of a beast Cormier is. Rumble has always been a weird individual his whole career which could be why he's never won a title.

Bloody elbow has the audio from rumble's corner. They were super pissed at him for trying to wrestle D.C. If it was a fix, the corner wasn't in on it. Or they are exceptional actors.

I don't think his corner was in on it, and I think they were genuinely pissed off and disappointed at what he was doing, which was throwing the fight. He would literally be coming off a great strike combo, then lunging forward stupidly. Almost amateur. OR intentionally knowing that's what DC needed. He literally gave the worst type of fight he could against a wrestler. I won't be paying for anymore UFC pay per views. Total waste of money the past 3 times.

Haha I don't doubt it. Even D.C. was pleasantly surprised Rumble wanted to play that game.

Like I said, I think Daniel was already in his head. Everyone is scared of Rumble, so when a guy is mentally and physically tough enough to eat his best shots and goes on to dominate him, that's gotta be a game changer.

Edit: it's about the same as Eddie playing into Conor's game like he did. The strategy was there and pretty obvious, at that. But it didn't stop him from trying to lunge at McGregor.
