Fuck yes. I feel pretty good about calling this one. I was literally jumping for joy when Glover moved to mount. We literally thought this guy was beyond his prime when he came to the UFC almost 10 years ago. Here he is at 42 winning the belt.
I don’t think there’s any need for a rematch. That was pretty decisive and Jiri is the clear number one contender. I think have Jan fight Anthony Smith next.
I would prefer that fight to doing a rematch of Smith and Rakic, but I feel like that's the route they're going. If it were up to me, I would do Anthony vs. Jan and then do Akalaev vs. Rakic for number one contender after Jiri. Or maybe rematch Santos with Jan or Anthony. Lots of possibilities here but nothing that REALLY jumps out at me as a "must".
Still listening to people talk about the fights yesterday. How crazy is it that this is the first time in ten whole years that someone has won the LHW belt by defeating the current champion? Jones has been stripped/vacated twice (he was stripped of the interim belt) and his win over Cormier was overturned. Cormier also vacated once. There have been three vacant LHW title fights in that time span. This is FINALLY the belt changing hands by conventional means.
Glover is truly an anomaly in the sport. Jan looked gassed after the first round. Hats off to him. Getting ready to watch Yan vs Sandhagen now.
No chance for a rematch. Great for Glover, what a tremendous story. Thought Yan rolled pretty easily, not sure who beats him in that division. Maybe Dillashaw if he can get, and keep, him down. But that's going to be a tall order.
I doubt either of these matchups will ever happen, but Cejudo (if he came back) and Cruz would be interesting. Cejudo is just so good all around and it would be interesting to see if he could get him down consistently. Cruz, IMO, has the chance to beat anyone by sticking and moving throughout the entire fight, but I think Yan would figure out how to hit him. Dillashaw is also always a threat, but I just don't see him fairing any better than Cory.
Cejudo being off for so long would give me pause, but he's got the wrestling. Yan would abuse Cruz at this point. If Casey Kenney was able to touch Dom up, no chance Yan wouldn't be able to do the same.
Way too talented to be doing this shit https://mmajunkie.usatoday.com/2021/11/ufc-news-jimmie-rivera-signs-bare-knuckle-fc
I just witnessed a double low-blow on the contender series. Seriously. In the clinch, both guys throw opposite knees, both connect to the cup, and both guys collapse.
What’s even more crazy is one of those guys (who was on his way to losing a decision) won by wheel kick with a minute left. It was wild. I don’t know why I never watch the contender series but it was great tonight. I’ll probably tune in more often next season.
No mortal man or supernatural entity could ever make me say anything positive about Colby Covington. Dude’s comments in interviews are not only blatantly wrong, but he is genuinely the biggest ass wipe in the sport next to Tito Ortiz. Good grief I hope Usman ends his mma career this time around.
So excited for Saturday. Very happy we get Rose v Weili again because I think we could see a war this time. I really don’t know who to pick for that fight. And I hope Usman crushes Colby but I think it’s going to be really close. No way I’d bet against Usman though. I think Chandler will be my upset pick.
This is why I think he’ll ultimately win. We all know how good Usman is. Colby has given him endless amounts of motivation to be even better. That’s scary lol
Colby will make it entertaining because despite being a complete ass, he’s really tough. But he’s going to take a beating.
