Very excited for Saturday. It’s a sneaky good card. The main card should be very entertaining and the prelims are great as well. Hoping Ortega finally wins the belt. FW has been a bit stale with Volk as champ.
Going with Volk based on MMA math, but I’m kinda hoping Ortega wins just to spice things up. Volk is so damn good, but I still think he’s beatable for the top guys.
Volk should have lost his last fight to Max. I think he’s very beatable. He’s also only fought 2 times in 2 years. I’m ready for the division to move on.
I respect the guy but everything about him just bores me. there's nothing exciting about his persona nor his fighting style imo
He for sure lost that last fight with Holloway I’ve watched it 4 times. Makes me annoyed and I try not to think about it anymore. I think O’Malley is just a young dude who caught attention early in his career and is essentially cashing in on that with the antics. But I wouldn’t say he’s a bad fighter by any means.
This fight is one of the best examples of the flaws in the scoring system IMO. The last three rounds were close to being 10-10s, yet they were scored with the same weight as the first two rounds where Max decisively won both and also had a knockdown in each. Even if you gave the edge to Volk in the last three rounds (I did not, if I recall correctly), it still just feels wrong to give him the win whenever your gut is telling you that Max did much better overall and Volk, at best, just managed to make it competitive towards the second half.
Yeah, won't say O'Malley's bad. Favorable matchmaking for sure, good for him though. Why take tougher fights if they're going to pay you the same either way. Guess Max is the only option for the winner this weekend? Another fight with Volk doesn't interest me a whole lot though if I'm being honest.
In all seriousness though, why do I have a feeling Diaz is going to eat Lawler alive? The biggest wildcard for me is obviously Nick's layoff, but stylistically I think it's a bad fight for Lawler even more so than it was back in the day. He has a tendency to sit and wait in a lot of his fights from the last few years (even taking some rounds off sometimes). The Diaz brothers will usually cut right through guys like that.
Yeah I think Lawler only wins if he get an early finish. With it being five rounds Nick has the Cardio advantage and will wear him out over time.
Yeah, I mean, in more recent memory, Lawler tends to stop fighting midway through the fight to save up for the end. If it's three rounds, he'll take round two off. If it's five, he'll take round 3 off. A lot of the high-volume guys tend to never let him get that break so he never really gets a chance to recharge.
